Repair Procedure

1. Lower the rear window.

2. Remove the inner door handle and the door panel. Refer to page 20-12 of the 1999-00 3.2TL Service Manual.

3. Remove the plastic cover and the rod protector.

4. Remove the rear channel, the quarter glass, the rear window, and the run channel. Refer to Rear Door Glass, Quarter Glass and Regulator Replacement on page 20-16 of the 1999-00 3.2TL Service Manual.

5. Remove the sub-seal and the weatherstrip.

6. Remove the B-pillar sash trim and the door molding.

NOTE:
Steps 7 thru 14 should be done by a competent automotive body repair shop.

7. Remove the sash trim from the door frame. Use a heat gun on its lowest setting to heat the trim, then peel it off. If the trim does not come off easily, remove it with a Scotch-Brite Molding Adhesive and Stripe Removal Disc mounted on an electric drill or die grinder with a tool speed under 2,800 RPM.

8. Remove any residual adhesive with 3M General Purpose Adhesive Remover, then clean the door frame with a mild soap and water solution.

9. Remove the adhesive backing from the front edge of the new sash trim. Align the small cut and the angle of the trim with the door frame.

10. Wet the door frame with a mild soap and water solution (two drops of dishsoap per gallon of water).

11. Peel off the backing as you slowly apply the trim to the door frame. Make sure the trim hangs over the edges of the door frame evenly and that you do not trap any air bubbles under it.

12. Starting at the front of the door, force the water out from under the trim with a plastic squeegee wrapped in a soft cloth.

13. From the middle of the door, roll the edges around the door frame while working toward the ends.

14. Use a squeegee to smooth down the remaining edges of the trim.

15. Reinstall the B-pillar trim and the door molding.

16. Reinstall the sub-seal and the weatherstrip.

17. Use super glue or an equivalent to glue the 6 mm washer to the top of the rear channel.

18. Reinstall the rear window, the quarter glass, the rear channel, and the run channel.

19. Reinstall the rod protector and the plastic cover.

20. Reinstall the door panel and the inner door handle.
