Inaccurate Fuel Gauge
SYMPTOM
The fuel gauge may not read accurately when the tank is between 1/2 and Full, and/or the gauge may not go to Full after the tank is filled.
PROBABLE CAUSE
Sulfur in the fuel affects the resistance of the fuel gauge sending unit.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the fuel gauge sending unit with an improved unit.

Out of warranty: Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Technical Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Open the trunk. Remove the trunk floor.
2. Remove the fuel fill cap.
3. Remove the fuel pump access cover (3 screws).
4. Disconnect the 5P connector from the fuel tank unit.
5. Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel tank unit (quick-disconnect fittings).
6. Remove the fuel tank unit mounting bolts. Remove the unit from the tank.
7. Remove the fuel gauge sending unit from the fuel tank unit.
8. Install the new fuel gauge sending unit on the fuel tank unit by placing it against the assembly and sliding it up until it locks in place.
9. Reinstall the fuel tank unit in the fuel tank, and reconnect the electrical connector and lines. Torque the mounting bolts to 4 N.m (3 lb-ft).
10. Reinstall the access cover and the trunk floor.
11. Reinstall the fuel fill cap.
