DIAGNOSIS

Press the PANIC button on the remote transmitter for two seconds, and compare the sound of the security horn to a known-good 1999 3.2TL security horn.

^ If the security horn sounds weak compared to a known-good security horn, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.

^ If the tested security horn sounds the same, troubleshoot other causes for an intermittent symptom.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Loosen the security horn mounting bolt, then rock the security horn bracket gently back and forth. Twist the security horn bracket just enough to break the paint bond between the bracket halves.

2. Unplug the electrical connector from the security horn, and remove the security horn bracket from the bracket assembly (one mounting bolt). Discard the mounting bolt.

3. Insert a flat-tip screwdriver between the bracket halves at the bolt hole end. Work the screwdriver as far down toward the horn as you can, then pry the bracket halves apart 1/2 to 3/4 inch until the 2 bracket halves maintain the gap.

4. Insert the 8 mm flat washer between the bracket halves, centering it over the bolt hole.

5. Center the security horn bracket on the bracket assembly, and secure it to the bracket assembly with the 8 x 21 mm washer-bolt. Plug in the electrical connector to the security horn.

6. Test the security horn with the remote transmitter to ensure the security horn works properly.
