Security System Sounds When Not Armed
SYMPTOM
The vehicle may have one or both of these symptoms:
^ The security system sounds while the vehicle is parked and the doors are unlocked.
^ The security system sounds while the engine is running.
If the customer complains that the security system sounds when the doors are locked and the vehicle has not been disturbed troubleshoot other causes.
PROBABLE CAUSE
Faulty passenger [1][2]multiplex control unit.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the passenger [1][2]multiplex control unit.

Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Technical Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.
DIAGNOSIS
The symptoms are usually difficult to duplicate. Confirm the customer's complaint it the complaint matches one or both of the symptoms, replace the passenger's side [1][2]multiplex control unit.
If the security system sounds when the doors are locked and the vehicle has not been disturbed, the repair procedure in this service bulletin will not fix the vehicle.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
Before starting this repair procedure, get all of the remote transmitters for the vehicle.
1. Remove the passenger [1][2]multiplex control unit. Refer to page 22-53 of the 1993 3.2TL Service Manual.
2. Replace the passenger [1][2]multiplex control unit with the one listed under PARTS INFORMATION.
3. Reinstall all removed parts.
4. Reprogram all the remote transmitters. Refer to page 22-239 of the 1999 3.2TL Service Manual.
5. Make sure the doors, the hood, and the trunk are closed.
6. Press and release the clock button on one remote transmitter. Check that the security system light next to the driver's door look knob blinks slowly for 15 seconds and then blinks quickly, indicating that the security system is set.
7. For each of the other remote transmitters, unlock the driver's door with the transmitter, open and close the door, and then repeat step 6.
