Product Update Campaign: PCV Hose Routing
BACKGROUND
In some areas of the U.S., certain basic chemical properties of gasoline (regardless of brand) may cause the intake manifold EGR port to clog. If this occurs, the MIL comes on and DTC P0401 (Insufficient EGR Flow) sets.
CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
Owners of affected vehicles (except in California) are being notified by mail about this product update.. An example of the customer letter is shown.
Vehicles in California are not involved in this campaign.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the rear intake manifold end plate and gasket, the PCV hose, and the intake manifold cover.
PARTS INFORMATION
Intake Manifold Kit: P/N 06170-P8E-A1O
(The kit contains one rear intake manifold end plate and gasket, one intake manifold cover, one expanded 12 mm diameter hose clamp, one 15.5 mm diameter hose clamp, one PCV hose, and one PCV cap.)
WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Remove the intake manifold cover (four bolts). Discard the cover.
2. Unplug the rear ignition coil 3P connectors.
3. Remove the rear ignition coil cover (two bolts).
4. Pull the PCV valve out of the cylinder head cover.
5. Disconnect the PCV hose from the PCV valve. Save the valve, but discard the hose clamp.
6. Disconnect the PCV hose from the intake manifold port. Discard the hose and its clamp.
7. Push the PCV cap from the kit onto the intake manifold port. Secure the cap with the 15.5 mm diameter hose clamp from the kit.
8. Remove the rear intake manifold end plate (two nuts) and its gasket. Discard the end plate and the gasket.
9. Install the gasket and end plate from the kit. Torque the nuts to 12 Nm (8.7 lb-ft).
10. From the kit, slip the expanded 12 mm diameter hose clamp onto the PCV hose, and connect the hose to the port on the end plate. Tighten the clamp by pulling off its clip with a pair of pliers.
11. Route the PCV hose underneath the intake manifold toward the throttle body.
12. Connect the other end of the hose to the PCV valve with the clamp provided. (This clamp is on the end of the hose.)
13 Push the PCV valve into the cylinder head cover.
14. Reinstall the rear ignition coil cover.
15. Plug in the rear ignition coil 3P connectors.
16. Install the intake manifold cover from the kit.
17. Center-punch a completion mark above the first character (1) of the engine compartment VIN.
