MIL Comes On With DTC P0301 and P0305

SYMPTOM

The MIL comes on with DTC P0301 and P0305 (random misfire).

PROBABLE CAUSE

The PCM may incorrectly interpret sensor inputs under certain driving conditions and set DTC P0301 and P0305.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the PCM.

Out of warranty:
Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.

DIAGNOSIS

1. Connect the Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) to the DLC (data link connector), and check for DTCs.

2. If DTC P0301 and P0305 (random misfire) are stored, check and confirm that the freeze data is greater than these values, RPM, 4000; ECT, 170°F; TPS, 1.0V; and VSS, 30.

^ If the values are met, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.

^ If one or more of the conditions indicated are not met, disregard this service bulletin and continue with normal troubleshooting.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

NOTE:
These models have an enhanced immobilizer system. You can rewrite the transponder codes with the HDS using just one programmed ignition key. Make sure you download the transponder codes from the original PCM to the HDS before replacing the PCM.
