DIAGNOSIS
Connect the PGM Tester to the vehicle's DLC (data link connector), and check for DTCs.
^ If DTC P0128 or P1486 is stored, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.
^ If another DTC is stored, go to the appropriate troubleshooting procedure in the service manual.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
NOTE:
You can rewrite the PCM with the PGM Tester using only one working ignition key.
Preparation
You need these items:
^ A working ignition key for the vehicle
^ PGM Tester with S/N 122 or later software on an
8MB program card
NOTE:
Make sure the PGM Tester's setup (current Date and Market Destination) is correct before you use it.
^ Password for the PGM Tester (Ask your Service Manager for this five-character password, or get it from the ACURALINK 2000 VIN Status Inquiry display.)
^ Immobilizer PCM code (This VIN-specific, 4-digit code is available on the ACURALINK 2000 VIN Status Inquiry display. The code is changed often, so use it as soon as you get it.)
Procedure
1. Connect the PGM Tester to the 1 6P data link connector.
2. Insert the working key into the ignition switch, and turn the ignition switch ON (II).
3. From the SYSTEM SELECT screen, select 5: IMMOBI.
4. From the TEST MODE MENU - IMM screen, select 3: REPLACE BY 1 KEY.
5. Follow the screen prompts on the PGM Tester. (All immobilizer key transponder codes are automatically downloaded from the original PCM to the PGM Tester.) During this download process, make sure the ignition switch stays ON (II) and the PGM Tester stays connected.
6. When the downloading is complete, turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
7. Write down the anti-theft code and the radio station presets, then disconnect the battery.
8. Pull back the carpet from the passenger's and driver's sides of the center console to expose the PCM.
9. Disconnect the connectors from the PCM.
10. Remove the two bolts from the PCM.
11. Remove the PCM.
12. Install the new PCM in the reverse order of removal.
13. Reconnect the battery.
14. Turn the ignition switch ON (II). Keep following the screen prompts on the PGM Tester. (All the transponder codes are automatically uploaded to the new PCM.)
15. When the uploading is complete, turn the ignition switch OFF, and disconnect the PGM Tester.
16. Start the engine to make sure the new PCM has been properly rewritten.
17. Enter the anti-theft code and the radio station presets, and set the clock.
