Brake Pedal, Steering Wheel, or Vehicle Vibrates While Braking

*REVISION SUMMARY
^ Under WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION, the operation numbers, descriptions, and flat rate times were changed.
^ Under REPAIR PROCEDURE, the requirement to refinish new brake discs was removed.*
SYMPTOM
When the brakes are applied normally, the driver feels a pulsing sensation through the brake pedal, the steering wheel shakes, or the vehicle does not have a smooth, continuous deceleration feeling.
PROBABLE CAUSE
The front and/or rear brake pads have caused a variation in the brake disc thickness.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Refinish or replace the front brake discs, and install new brake pads. Test-drive the vehicle, and if necessary, refinish or replace the rear brake discs and install new brake pads.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Remove the front wheels, calipers, and brake pads (refer to page 19-11 of the 1999-03 3.2 TL Service Manual or page 19-11 of the 2001-03 3.2 CL Service Manual).
2. On both sides of the vehicle, measure the front brake disc thickness at eight points about 45° apart and 10 mm from the outer edge of the disc. The minimum disc thickness is 26.0 mm (1.02 in.).
If the discs measure more than the minimum thickness, refinish the front brake discs on the car (refer to Service Bulletin 00-037, Brake Disc Refinishing Guidelines).
* ^ If one or both of the discs measure less than the minimum thickness, replace them as needed.*
3. Replace the front brake pad set (refer to steps 10 thru 16 on page 19-12 of the 1999-03 3.2TL Service Manual or steps 9 thru 16 on page 19-12 of the 2001-03 3.2 CL Service Manual).
4. Test-drive the vehicle to check for proper brake operation.
^ If the brakes function properly, return the vehicle to the customer.
^ If the vehicle does not have a smooth, continuous deceleration feeling, go to step 5.
5. Remove the rear wheels, calipers, and brake pads
(refer to page 19-20 of the 1999-03 3.2 TL Service
Manual or page 19-20 of the 2001-03 3.2 CL
Service Manual).
6. On both sides of the vehicle, measure the rear brake disc thickness at eight points about 450 apart and 10 mm from the outer edge of the disc. The minimum disc thickness is 7.5 mm (0.30 in.).
^ If the discs measure more than the minimum thickness, refinish the rear brake discs on the vehicle (refer to Service Bulletin 00-037, Brake Disc Refinishing Guidelines).
* ^ If one or both of the discs measure less than the minimum thickness, replace them as needed.*
7. Replace the rear brake pad set (refer to steps 9 thru 16 on page 19-21 of the 1999-03 3.2 TL Service Manual or steps 9 thru 16 on page 19-21 of the 2001-033.2 CL Service Manual).
