Dashboard
Dashboard Removal/InstallationSRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations precautions and procedures before performing repairs or service.
NOTE:
- When prying with a flat-tip screwdriver, wrap it with protective tape, and apply protective tape around the related parts to prevent damage.
- An assistant is helpful when removing and installing the dashboard.
- Take care not to scratch the dashboard, body, and other related parts.
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio, then write down the frequencies for the radio's preset buttons.
2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
3. Remove these items:
- Dashboard lower cover
- Console panel
- Glove box cover
- Audio unit
- A-pillar trim, both sides
- Rear console, M/T model, A/T model.
4. Remove the ground bolt (A) and mounting bolts (B), and on '01 model, remove the data link connector (C) from the bracket (D). Disconnect the SRS wire harness connectors (E) and if equipped, disconnect the lateral acceleration sensor connector (F). Detach the connector clip (G) and remove the bracket from the center frame.
5. Detach the clips (H) from both sides of the center frame, then pull back the carpet as necessary.
6. Disconnect the cable reel connector, immobilizer receiver unit connector, steering angle sensor connector, combination switch connectors, ignition switch connectors and driver's airbag connector, and lower the steering column. To prevent damage to the steering column, wrap it with a shop towel.
7. Disconnect the side wire harness connectors (A), engine compartment wire harness connectors (B), door wire harness connectors (C), passenger's door subharness connector (D), dashboard wire harness connectors (E), steering hanger beam wire harness connectors (F), brake switch connector (G), SRS wire harness connector (H), ECM/PCM connectors (I), air mix control motor connector (J), evaporator temperature sensor connector (K), mode motor connector (L), shift lock solenoid connector (M), A/T mode switch connector (N), parking brake switch connector (O) (M/T model), recirculation control motor connector (P), blower motor connector (Q), power transistor connector (R), roof wire harness connectors (S), and air hose (T).
8. Using a Torx T30 bit, remove the ground bolt (U).
9. Detach all of the harness and connector clips.
10. From outside the driver's door, remove the caps (A), then remove the bolts (B, C, D, E, F), and lift up on the dashboard (G) to release it from the guide pins (H).
11. Carefully remove the dashboard through the door opening.
12. Install the dashboard in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Apply liquid thread lock to the E bolt before reinstallation.
- Make sure the dashboard fits onto the guide pins correctly.
- Before tightening the bolts, make sure the dashboard wire harness and steering hanger beam wire harness are not pinched.
- Make sure the connectors are plugged in properly, and the antenna lead is connected properly.
- Enter the anti-theft code for the radio, then enter the customer's radio station presets.
- Reset the clock.
