Inspection and Service

INSPECTION

1. Measure wear and taper in directions X or Y at three levels in each cylinder as shown.

Cylinder bore size:
M/T:
Standard (New):
A or I: 93.010 - 93.020 mm (3.6618 - 3.6622 inch)
B or II: 93.000 - 93.010 mm (3.6614 - 3.6618 inch)
Service Limit: 93.07 mm (3.664 inch)
A/T:
Standard (New):
A or I: 90.010 - 90.020 mm (3.5437 - 3.5441 inch)
B or II: 90.000 - 90.010 mm (3.5433 - 3.5437 inch)
Service Limit: 90.07 mm (3.546 inch)
Oversize:
0.25: 90.25 - 90.26 mm (3.553 - 3.554 inch)
0.50: 90.50 - 90.51 mm (3.563 - 3.563 inch)
Cylinder bore taper:
Difference Between first and third measurement:
Limit: 0.05 mm (0.002 inch)

- If measurements in any cylinder are beyond Oversize Bore Service Limit, replace the block.
- If block is to be rebored, refer to "Piston Clearance Inspection" after reboring.

NOTE: Scored or scratched cylinder bores must be honed.

Reboring limit (A/T): 0.50 mm (0.020 inch)

2. Check the top of the block for warpage.
Measure along the edges and across the center as shown.

Bore Honing (A/T)

NOTE: Only scored or scratched cylinder bores must be honed.

1. Measure cylinder bores. If the block is to be reused, hone the cylinders and remeasure the bores.

2. Hone cylinder bores with honing oil and a fine (400 grit) stone in a 60 degree cross-hatch pattern.

NOTE:
- Use only a rigid hone with 400 grit or finer stone such as Sunnen, Ammco, or equivalent.
- Do not use stones that are worn or broken.

3. When honing is complete, thoroughly clean the cylinder block of all metal particles. Wash the cylinder bores with hot soapy water, then dry and oil them immediately to prevent rusting.

NOTE: Never use solvent, it will only redistribute the grit on the cylinder walls.

4. If scoring or scratches are still present in cylinder bores after honing to service limit, rebore the cylinder block.
