Headlamp: Description and Operation
How the Circuit WorksCAUTION: You could injure someone's fingers by pinching them between the headlight covers and body panels as the headlights are raised or lowered. Before you turn the headlights ON or OFF, make sure no one is near them.
When you move the combination light switch to HEAD or the retractor switch to OPEN, the headlight retractor motors move the headlights to the UP position When you move the combination light switch from HEAD to PARK, the headlights remain open When you move the switch to OFF, the headlights close The headlights will also open and close automatically when you use the flash-to-pass feature
Control Sequence for OPEN
When you move the combination light switch to HEAD, battery voltage is supplied through fuse 43 and the PNK/BLK wire to the "headlights ON-OPEN" request terminal of the retractable headlight control unit The combination switch supplies a "headlights ON" input to the control unit through the RED/GRN and RED/YEL wires The control unit then energizes the headlight retractor relays (through the limit switches) and the headlight retractor cut relays Battery voltage is supplied through fuses 42 and 43 and the drive contacts of the headlight retractor relays to the retractor motors The motors then run until the OPEN contacts in the limit switches open This deenergizes the headlight retractor relays which stops the motors in the OPEN position The motors are grounded through the control relays to G202
Control Sequence for CLOSE
When you move the combination light switch to OFF, battery voltage is supplied through fuse 42 and the BRN/WHT wire to the retractor switch contacts in the closed position, the combination light switch and the RED/GRN wire (to the "lights OFF-CLOSE" request terminal of the retractable headlight control unit) The control unit energizes the headlight retractor relays (through the limit switches) and the headlight retractor cut relay Battery voltage is supplied through fuses 42 and 43 and through the drive contacts of the headlight retractor relays to the retractor motors The motors then run until the close limit switches open This deenergizes the headlight retractor relays which stops the motors in the CLOSED position The motors are grounded through the headlight retractor cut relays to G202
Security and Flash-to-Pass
When the flash/security timed OPEN request terminal of the retractable headlight control unit is grounded through the LT GRN/RED wire, the headlights move to the open position for a timed period The headlights will close after a timed delay if the control unit does not continue to receive the OPEN request input
