Headliner: Service and Repair

Headliner Removal/Installation

NOTE:
- When prying with a flat-tip screwdriver, wrap it with protective tape to prevent damage.
- Take care not to bend and scratch the headliner.
- Be careful not to damage the dashboard and other interior trim.

1. Remove these items:
- Front pillar trim, both sides, and the center pillar upper trim, both sides
- Ceiling light
- Rear window antenna terminal cover




2. Remove the sunvisor (A) from each side. Disconnect the vanity mirror light connectors (B) (driver's and passenger's). Push in the tab (C) and twist the holder (D), then remove it.




3. Remove the roof console.
1. Remove the lens (A).
2. Remove the screws.
3. Pull out the roof console (B), and disconnect the spotlight connector (C).




4. Lower the grab handle, then pull back the caps (A). Remove the bolts, then remove the grab handles (B) (driver's and each passenger's).




5. Remove the headliner.
1. Remove the upper portion of the rear pillar trim (A) from each side, '99-01 models, '02-03 models.
2. Remove the socket plug (B) and roof trim (C).
3. With the help of an assistant, detach the clips, and lower the headliner (D).
4. Remove the headliner through the front passenger's door opening.




6. Install the headliner in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- When reinstalling the headliner through the door opening, be careful not to fold or bend it. Also, be careful not to scratch the body.
- When reinstalling the roof trim (A), install the joint (B) toward the rear center.
- Check that both sides of the headliner are securely attached to the trim.
