Rear

Replacement
1. Raise the rear of the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported. Remove the rear wheel.
2. Release the parking brake.
3. Remove the brake hose (A) from the suspension arm by removing the mounting bolt.

4. Remove the flange bolts (B) while holding the pins (C) with a wrench being careful not to damage the pin boot, and remove the caliper (D). Check the hose and pin boots for damage and deterioration. Thoroughly clean the outside of the caliper to prevent dust and dirt from entering inside. Support the caliper with a piece of wire so it does not hand from the brake hose.

5. Remove the pad shims (A) and brake pads (B).
6. Remove the pad retainers (A).
7. Clean the caliper thoroughly; remove any rust, and check for grooves and cracks.

8. Check the brake disc for damage and cracks.
9. Install the pad retainers.

10. Apply Molykote M77 grease to the pad side of the shims (A), the back of the pads (B), and other areas indicated by the arrows. Wipe excess grease off the shim. Contaminated brake discs or pads reduce stopping ability. Keep grease off the discs and pads.
11. Install the brake pads (B) and pad shims on the caliper bracket. Install the pad with the wear indicator (C) on the inside.
If you are reusing the pads, always reinstall the pads in their original positions to prevent a momentary loss of braking efficiency.
12. Push in the piston so the caliper will fit over the pads. Make sure the piston boot is in position to prevent damaging it when installing the caliper.

13. Install the brake caliper (A).
14. Install the flange bolts (B), and torque them to the specified torque. Be careful not to damage the pin boots. Check the hose and pin boots for damage and deterioration.
15. Install the brake hose (D) onto the suspension arm with the mounting bolt.
16. After installation, check for leaks at hose and line joints and connections, and retighten if necessary.
17. Press the brake pedal several times to make sure the brakes work, then road-test.

NOTE: Engagement of the brake may require a greater pedal stroke immediately after the brake pads have been replaced as a set. Several applications of the brake pedal will restore the normal pedal stroke.
