Transmission Removal
Manual Transmission Removal
Special Tools Required
- Transmission Jack Adapter (EQS02C000012)
- Engine hanger (A and Reds AAR-T-12566 or equivalent commercially available)
NOTE: Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
1. Before disconnecting the battery, make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio and the navigation system, then write down the frequencies for the radio's preset stations.
2. Remove the bolt securing the support strut on the right side hood. Secure the hood in a vertical position, then install the strut with its bolt in the lower position.
NOTE: Do not attempt to close the hood with the support strut in the vertical position; it will damage the support strut and hood.
3. Remove the intake air duct.
4. Remove the engine cover.
5. Remove the battery.
6. Remove the battery tray.
7. Disconnect the back-up light switch connector (A) and reverse lockout solenoid connector (B).
8. Remove the front engine lock damper bracket bolts (A) and front engine mount nut (B).
9. Disconnect the countershaft speed sensor connector (A) and mainshaft speed sensor connector (B).
10. Disconnect the starter cable (A) and ground cable (B), then remove the starter motor (C).
11. Remove the harness clips (A) and ground cable (B).
12. Disconnect the CKP sensor B connector (A), then remove the CKP sensor B (B), and ground cable (C).
13. First remove the harness bracket (A) and cable bracket (B), then disconnect the cables (C) from the top of the transmission housing. Carefully remove both cables and the bracket together so as not to bend the cables.
14. Carefully remove the slave cylinder so as not to bend the clutch line. Do not operate the clutch pedal once the slave cylinder has been removed.
15. Remove the two upper transmission mounting bolts.
16. Lift and support the engine/transmission assembly with a commercially available engine hanger (A). Before attaching the hanger, remove the front bulkhead cover, and the front beam.
17. Remove the splash shield.
18. Remove the cotter pins (A), castle nuts (B), and damper fork (C), then separate the ball joints from the lower arms (D).
19. Remove the driveshafts.
20. Remove the intermediate shaft.
21. Remove the bolts securing the radius rods (E), then separate the radius rods from the lower arm (D).
22. Remove the mounting nuts from the transmission side mount.
23. Make a reference mark (A) across the front beam (B) and the rear beam (C).
24. Disconnect the vacuum tube (A) on the front beam (B), and unclamp the power steering fluid pipes (C) from the clamps on the front beam.
25. Remove the bolt securing the transmission lower mounts, then remove the front beam (B).
26. Remove the front engine mount bracket.
27. Remove the clutch cover.
28. Remove the three mounting bolts (A), then remove the transmission side mount (B).
29. Attach the special tool to the transmission.
30. Remove the transmission mounting bolts.
31. Pull the transmission away just enough to clear the dowel pins, then rotate the rear of the transmission down about 45° so the rear of the transmission (A) clears the rear beam (B). Pull the transmission away from the engine until the mainshaft clears the clutch pressure plate, then lower the transmission on the jack.
32. Remove the boot (A), the release fork (B), and the release bearing (C) from the transmission (D).
