DIAGNOSIS

1. *Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and push the Call Answer/End button (black dot button). After the OnStar system says "ready," say "dial." The system will say "number please." Next say "zero." The system will repeat the word "zero." Continue with the numbers one through nine.*

NOTE:
If, when you push the Call Answer/End button, the OnStar system makes a beep followed by a double beep, push the Call Answer/End button again and say "voice feedback." The system will say "voice feedback is now on." Say "dial," then continue with the numbers.

2. If the OnStar system misinterprets any of the spoken numbers, try repeating the misinterpreted number.

^ If the OnStar system misinterprets the number again, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.

^ If the OnStar system repeats the numbers correctly, continue with normal troubleshooting.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

2. To remove the OnStar switch assembly, use a small flat-tip screwdriver to push on the tabs while pulling downward.

3. Unplug the 6P (green), 2P, and 4P (gray) connectors, and remove the switch assembly.

4. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw.

5. Slide a small flat-tip screwdriver under the microphone connector to release the connector from the cover plate.

6. Using a small flat-tip screwdriver, pry upward in the five slots to remove the cover plate. Then unhook the wires that go to the 4P connector.

7. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws that fasten the microphone assembly to the switch.

8. Remove the microphone assembly, and replace it with the new microphone assembly.

9. Reinstall the assembly cover, reconnect the connectors, and install the assembly.

10. *Repeat DIAGNOSIS to verify the repair.

^ If the OnStar system misinterprets the number(s) again, continue with normal troubleshooting.

^ If the OnStar system repeats the number(s) correctly, the repair is complete.*
