Strut / Shock Tower: Service and Repair
Removal
Front Wheelhouse
- Cut and remove the wheel house upper member.
- When removing the front wheel house, if necessary, cut the wheel house upper extension.
Damper Housing
- Check the damper housing position, and check for damage. If necessary, replace it.
- Remove the wheel house upper member, and wheel house upper member separator.
- When removing the wheel house upper member separator, glue the urethane block at the separator mounted position.
Replace the damper housing and wheel house upper extension as an assembly.
Installation
1. Check the damper housing and front side frame position, and set the new wheel house upper extension align it with the body side wheel house upper extension.
2. Cut the new wheel house upper extension and clamp it into position.
3. Clamp the new front wheel house and front bulkhead into position.
4. Check the body dimensions, engine compartment, engine compartment and front floor under view, repair chart top view repair chart side view.
5. Tack weld the wheel house upper extension (A).
6. Temporarily install the hood, front fender, headlight, and front bumper, then check for A differences in level and clearance. Make sure the body lines flow smoothly.
7. Do the main welding.
- Attach the patch (A) at the joint section (B) of the wheel house upper extension (C), and weld it.
- Weld the front wheel house (D) and front bulkhead (E).
8. Weld the wheel house upper member (A).
Damper Housing
1. Set the new parts, and front bulkhead into position, and measure the front compartment diagonally. Check the body dimensions, engine compartment, engine compartment and front floor under view, repair chart top view, repair chart side view.
2. Tack weld the new parts into position.
3. Temporarily install the front sub frame, and check the front side frame position.
4. Temporarily install the hood, front fender, headlight, and front bumper, then check for differences in level and clearance. Make sure the body lines flow smoothly.
5. Do the main welding.
- Weld the wheel house upper extension (A) and dashboard upper side member extension (B).
- Weld the damper housing (C), front wheel house (D) and front side frame (E).
- From the passenger's compartment side, plug weld the holes in the dashboard lower (F), housing lower extension (G) and damper housing lower (H).
6. Glue the urethane block (A) to the wheel house upper extension (B) as shown.
Urethane block: P/N 91616-S04-000
Adhesive: Cemedine 366, or equivalent
7. Weld the wheel house upper member (A).
8. Insert the nozzle to the holes (A) of the wheel house upper member (B), and spray the anti-rust agent (C) on and around the urethane block (D).
