Audio Unit Diagnosis

(Supersedes 04-006, dated January 7, 2005, to update the information indicated by the black bars and asterisks.)

BACKGROUND

The 2004-06 TL audio system is one of the most technologically advanced system ever available in an Acura. If a client reports an audio system problem, a thorough diagnosis is needed for you to understand the problem and correct it.

The information in this service bulletin works in conjunction with the current audio system information and diagnosis procedures in the 2004-06 TL Service Manual. It also provides instructions on how to order an audio unit if replacement is necessary.

DIAGNOSIS

1. Interview the client to get as much information as possible. Information such as where and when the problem occurs is vital to diagnosis. This information also helps you determine if the audio system is operating normally or if the problem is caused by atmospheric conditions. Write up the complaint on the repair order.

2. Duplicate and confirm the problem using the information written on the repair order. Then write the results on the repair order.

3. Using the SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING INDEX, find the symptom that matches the client's complaint, and follow the diagnostic procedure for the symptom.

* ^ Refer to section 22 of the 2004-06 TL Service Manual, or*

^ Online, enter keyword Audio, and select the appropriate Symptom Troubleshooting from the list.

4. Once your diagnosis is complete, do the needed repairs. If the audio unit requires replacement, see AUDIO UNIT AUTHORIZATION PROCEDURE.

5. Confirm the repair was successful by trying to duplicate the client's complaint. When the problem does not recur, return the vehicle to the client.
