Interior - Driver's Memory Position System Inoperative

Driving Position Memory System Does Not Work

(Supersedes 04-005, dated March 2, 2004, to update the information indicated by asterisks)

SYMPTOM

The DPMS has any of these symptoms:

^ Cannot recall a previously set memory position

^ Cannot recall a memory position until the ignition is turned on or until the seat adjustment switch has been activated

^ Driving position memory switch LEDs intermittently do not come on when the system is activated

PROBABLE CAUSE

The driver's side power seat control unit loses memory.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the driver's side power seat control unit.

Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

*2. Remove the driver's seat:

^ See page 20-101 of the 2004-06 TL Service Manual, or

^ Online, enter keyword SEAT REMOVAL, then select Front Seat Removal/Installation from the list.*





3. Disconnect the four connectors from the power seat control unit, then pull down on the control unit to release the clips, and remove it from the seat.

4. Install the new power seat control unit, and connect the four connectors.

5. Reinstall the driver's seat.

*6. Set the two seat positions in the memory of the DPMS using the door panel memory switches:

^ Online, go to Search by Publication, then select Owner Manuals from the list.

^ Select 2004 TL Owner's Manual or 2005 TL Owner's Manual, then select Instruments and Controls from the main table of contents.

^ Select Driver's Position Memory System from the Instrument and Controls table of contents.*

7. Verify the repair:

^ Use the remote transmitter provided by the client to select the memorized seat position for that remote.

^ Press memory buttons 1 and 2 to move the seat to the two memorized positions.
