Moonroof Wind Deflector Rattles

SYMPTOM

Rattle or tapping noise from the front of the moonroof.

PROBABLE CAUSE

Moonroof wind deflector out of specification.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the moonroof wind deflector with the new moonroof deflector.

Out of warranty:
Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.

DIAGNOSIS

1. Open the moonroof completely.





2. Cut a 1-inch-by-8-inch piece of EPT sealer 3T. Place the sealer between the moonroof wind deflector and the moonroof pan. Make sure it is centered. Do not peel the backing off the sealer to adhere it to the roof. Use the sealer as a temporary cushion.

3. Test-drive the vehicle.

^ If the noise is gone, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.

^ If the noise is still present, continue with normal troubleshooting.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Open the glass fully, and remove the strip of sealer.

2. Replace the moonroof wind deflector:

^ Refer to page 20-52 of the 2004-05 TL Service Manual.

^ In ISIS, enter keyword MOONROOF WIND, and select Moon roof Wind Deflector Replacement.
