DIAGNOSIS
1. Test-drive the vehicle over a rough road surface to verify where the rattle is coming from (left side, right side, or both sides).
NOTE:
An outside air temperature of 50°F or lower is usually required to reproduce the noise.
2. Stop the vehicle. Using hand pressure, press down firmly on the windshield portion of the roof molding area where the four clips are located. Tape the molding down to help stabilize it.
3. Test-drive the vehicle again under the same conditions.
^ If the noise is reduced or eliminated, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.
^ If the noise is still present, continue with normal troubleshooting.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Using a flat-tip screwdriver, gently pull the molding away from the windshield, and locate the four retaining clips.
NOTE:
Mark the windshield with a tire crayon at the clip locations.
2. Starting with either the top or bottom clip, apply the adhesive to each of the four molding clips so that when the molding is in the proper position, the adhesive secures the clip in the retainer.
3. Using hand pressure, press the molding back into position. Apply tape over the molding and onto the windshield to prevent movement while the adhesive dries (about 2 hours).
4. If necessary, repeat steps 1 thru 3 on the other side.
5. Once the adhesive has cured, remove the tape, and test-drive the vehicle to make sure the rattle is gone.
