Body - Trunk Lid Will Not Open

Trunk Lid Does Not Open

SYMPTOM

The trunk lid does not open when you pull up on the trunk release lever inside the vehicle.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The trunk lid opener is defective.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the trunk lid/fuel fill door opener assembly.

Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Use the ignition key to unlock the trunk lid and fuel fill door opener.





2. Using a plastic trim tool, pry up the front side cap to detach the four hooks, then remove the cap.

3. Remove the opener lock cylinder. Remove the bolt from the opener assembly.





4. Pull up the front door sill trim by hand to release the five clips, then remove the front door sill trim. Note which of the three grooves on the opener cable the opener assembly is attached to. Disconnect the cable from the trunk lid/fuel fill door opener assembly.





5. Remove the screw, then remove the opener assembly from the front door sill trim.

6. Install the opener assembly. Reinstall removed parts in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

^ Make sure the opener cable is attached at the same groove.

^ Make sure the trunk lid and the fuel fill door open properly and lock securely.
