Rear Door Panel: Service and Repair

Rear Door Panel Removal/Installation

Special Tools Required
- KTC trim tool set SOJATP2014 *
- Trim pad remover, Snap-on A 177A or equivalent, commercially available
* Available through the American Honda Tool and Equipment Program

NOTE: Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when prying components.




1. Using a trim tool, push on the bottom hook (A) and pivot the cover (B) on the upper hook (C), then detach the front hook (D), and then remove the cover and the screws securing the inner handle (E).




2. Remove the ashtray (A), and then remove the screw.




3. Release the clips that hold the door panel (A) with a commercially available trim pad remover (B).
4. Remove the door panel (A) with as little bending as possible to avoid creasing or breaking it.
1. While holding the door panel, pull the panel upward to release it from the upper clips (B, C).
2. While holding the door panel away from the door, disconnect the door subharness connector (D) and the power window switch connector (E).
3. While holding the door panel away from the door, remove the screws (F), then remove the inner handle (G) from the door panel.






NOTE: The inner handle cable (H) and the lock cable (I) are connected to the door panel. Do not pull the door panel up too far, or the inner handle cable will be damaged.

5. Remove the remaining clips from the door.
1. Using a clip remover, remove the clips (A).
2. Put on gloves to protect your hands. Use a knife, cut the boss (B) of the clip (C).




3. Push the clip, and then pull it away.

6. Replace all of the door panel clips with new ones.




7. If necessary, remove the door glass inner weatherstrip (A) from the door by pulling it up.
8. Remove the Velcro fastener (A) from the inner handle (B), and then disconnect the lock cable (C) from the joint bushing (D). Disconnect the inner handle cable (E) from the joint bushing (F), then remove the inner handle.






NOTE: Check the bushing for damage, and replace if necessary.




9. Disconnect the ashtray light connector (A).




10. Remove the screws, then remove the grip/armrest (A) from the door panel (B).




11. Remove the screws (A, B), then separate the door grip (C), the armrest (D), the power window switch panel (E), the grip bracket (F), and the power window switch (G).




12. Install the door panel in the reverse order of removal, and note these items.
- Replace any damaged cable fasteners with new ones.
- Before reinstalling the door panel, install the clips.
- When reinstalling the door panel, make sure the plastic cover is installed properly and sealed around its outside perimeter to seal out water.
- When replacing, the latch cable (A) should be fixed to the cable fastener (B) with the latch in lock position as shown.
- Make sure the connector is plugged in properly, and the cable is connected properly.
- Make sure the window and power door lock operate properly.
