Sunroof / Moonroof: Description and Operation

Moonroof

How the Circuit Works
The moonroof control unit, the moonroof switch, the driver's MPCS unit, and the MICU, control the moonroof operation. The moonroof control unit contains the moonroof close relay, the moonroof open relay, the moonroof motor, the hall sensor, and the CPU.

Power Supply
Battery voltage is supplied at all times through fuse 28 (in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box) to the moonroof open and close relays.

With the ignition switch in ON (II) or START (III), battery voltage is supplied through fuse 21 (in the driver's under/dash fuse/relay box) to the MICU. Battery voltage is supplied at all times through fuse 7 also located in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box to the MICU.

Battery voltage is supplied at all times through fuse 6 (in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box) to the roof console.

Normal Operation
The CPU in the moonroof control unit uses inputs from the moonroof switch to operate the moonroof open or close relays. The relays are always in the grounding position when not energized. When one of the relays is energized, battery voltage is provided to the moonroof motor. In this condition, the non-energized relay provides a path to ground for the moonroof motor. The CPU and relays are grounded at G601.

The moonroof has a key-off delay, which allows the moonroof to be operated for up to 10 minutes after the ignition is turned off. Opening one of the front doors cancels the key-off delay.

Remote Transmitter Operation
The moonroof can be opened with the remote transmitter. By pressing the UNLOCK button twice and then holding the button, the moonroof and all four windows will open. The moonroof and windows cannot be closed with the remote transmitter.

Ignition Key Operation
The moonroof can be opened and closed with the ignition key. By inserting the built-in key into the driver's door key cylinder switch and turning the built-in key clockwise twice and then holding the key, the moonroof and all four windows will open. By inserting the built-in key into the driver's door key cylinder switch and turning the built-in key counter clockwise twice and then holding the key, the moonroof and all four windows will close.
