Keyless Entry - Remembers Last Remote Settings

Keyless Access System Remembers the Last Remote

By default, the keyless access system in a '05 RL selects the settings for the last keyless access remote that was used to unlock the doors. Sometimes, this could lead a vehicle owner to think the keyless access system is broken. Here's an example:

You've got the DOOR UNLOCK MODE on the MID set to DRIVER DOOR ONLY. Both of the keyless access remotes are linked to the system. While carrying the Driver 1 remote, you grab the driver's door handle, unlock the door, and climb inside. Your spouse, while carrying the Driver 2 remote, grabs the front passenger's door handle, unlocks the door, and climbs inside. You turn the ignition switch to ON (II), the MID says WELCOME DRIVER 2, and all of your spouse's keyless memory settings start kicking in. To avoid this hassle, you've got to make the keyless access system think your remote was the last one used to unlock the doors. There are a couple of ways to do this:

^ Change the DOOR UNLOCK MODE setting to ALL DOORS. This way, your spouse's remote (Driver 2) won't be the last one used to unlock the doors. See the article "Customizing the Power Door Lock System" for details.

OR

^ Before you turn the ignition switch to ON (II), press the UNLOCK button on your remote. This way your remote (Driver 1) is the last one used to unlock the doors.

How Many Remotes Can I Add to Keyless Access?

If you're getting this question from '05 RL owners, the answer is six. The keyless access system accepts up to six keyless access remotes. But there's a catch. Only two remotes can change and retrieve the keyless memory settings (driving position memory, customized settings, audio system settings, climate control settings, and navigation system preferences). If you use one of the other keyless access remotes, you'll see GUEST on the MID.
