Repair Procedure
Dashboard Upper Visor1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the audio and navigation systems, then write down the client's audio presets.
2. Disconnect and isolate the negative cable from the battery.
3. Lift up the dashboard upper visor to release the five clips.
4. Disconnect the two connectors, then remove the visor.
5. Cut seven 15 mm x 20 mm pieces of wool felt, remove the adhesive backing, and apply the felt pieces to the seven ribs on the visor, just below the display.
6. Cut one 20 mm x 50 mm piece of EPT sealer (ST), remove the adhesive backing, then secure the sunlight sensor harness to the dashboard with the sealer.
7. Reconnect the connectors, then reinstall the visor.
Driver's Side Defogger Vent
8. Remove the driver's side defogger vent trim:
^ Refer to page 20-104 of the 2005-06 RL Service Manual, or
^ Online, enter keyword VENT TRIM, and select Side Defogger Vent Removal/Installation from the list.
9. Use a flat-tip screwdriver to bend and push the metal tab off of the alignment pin behind the driver's side defogger vent trim. If needed, use a hammer to lightly tap the screwdriver.
NOTE:
This alignment pin is used only during vehicle assembly.
10. Reinstall the driver's side defogger vent trim.
Driver's Side Vent
11. Remove the instrument fascia:
^ Refer to page 20-98 of the service manual, or
^ Online, enter keyword FASCIA, and select Instrument Fascia Removal/Installation from the list.
12. Remove the driver's vent panel:
^ Refer to page 20-100 of the service manual, or
^ Online, enter keyword DRIVER VENT REM, and select Driver's Vent Panel Removal/ Installation from the list.
13. Cut one 25 mm x 75 mm piece of wool felt, remove the adhesive backing, and apply the felt to the bracket where it contacts the duct.
14. Cut one 20 mm x 215 mm piece of wool felt, remove the adhesive backing, and apply it to the bottom edge of the driver's vent panel.
15. Cut one 20 mm x 180 mm piece of wool felt, remove the adhesive backing, and apply it to the top edge of the panel.
16. Reinstall all removed parts.
Driver's Dashboard Under Cover
17. Remove the driver's dashboard under cover:
^ Refer to page 20-99 of the service manual, or
^ Online, enter keyword UNDER COVER, and select Driver's Dashboard Under Cover Removal/Installation from the list.
18. Cut one 40 mm x 50 mm piece of EPT sealer (31), remove the adhesive backing, and apply it around the pin on the under cover.
19. Cut one 100 mm x 110 mm piece of EPT sealer (31), remove the adhesive backing, and apply it to the cover.
20. Reinstall the cover.
Center Console and Trim, Passenger's Vent Panel
21. Remove the center console:
^ Refer to page 20-91 of the service manual, or
^ Online, enter keyword CONSOLE REM, and select Center Console Removal/Installation from the list.
NOTE:
Support the rear of the console so it does not rest on the rear NC vent duct.
22. Remove the passenger's vent panel:
^ Refer to page 20-100 of the service manual, or
^ Online, enter keyword PASS VENT REM, and select Passenger's Vent Panel Removal/Installation from the list.
23. Cut one 20 mm x 630 mm piece of wool felt and one 20 mm x 100 mm piece of wool felt, remove the adhesive backing, and apply them to the top edge of the passenger's vent panel.
24. Cut one 20 mm x 170 mm piece of wool felt, remove the adhesive backing, and apply it to the bottom edge of the panel.
25. Cut two 20 mm x 180 mm pieces of wool felt and two 20 mm x 70 mm pieces of wool felt, remove the adhesive backing, and apply them to both center console trim pieces.
26. Cut one 50 mm x 100 mm piece of EPT sealer (31), remove the adhesive backing, then pull back the carpet on the right side of the shift lever, and apply the felt to the plastic shield.
27. Cut two 8 mm x 270 mm pieces of wool felt, remove the adhesive backing, and apply them to the center console.
NOTE:
^ Support the rear of the console so it does not rest on the rear A/C vent duct.
^ Make sure the felt will not be visible after you reinstall the center console.
28. Remove the document tray:
^ Refer to page 20-101 of the service manual, or
^ Online, enter keyword DOC TRAY, and select Document Tray Removal/Installation from the list.
29. Remove the passenger's dashboard under cover:
^ Refer to page 20-101 of the service manual, or
^ Online, enter keyword PASS COVER, and select Passenger's Dashboard Under Cover Removal/Installation from the list.
30. Remove the glove box:
^ Refer to page 20-102 of the service manual, or
^ Online, enter keyword GLOVE REM, and select Glove Box Removal/Installation from the list.
31. Remove the front passenger's airbag:
^ Refer to page 24-207 of the service manual, or
^ Online, enter keyword PASS AIRBAG REP, and select Front Passenger's Airbag Replacement from the list.
32. Cut two 25 mm x 25 mm pieces of wool felt, and cut a hole in the center of each piece. Remove the adhesive backing, and apply the pieces around the pins and to the frame of the passenger's airbag.
33. Remove the two bolts at the bottom of the glove box opening.
34. Cut one 30 mm x 60 mm piece of EPT sealer (31), and remove the adhesive backing. Pull out the lower-right corner of the dashboard, and apply the sealer to the dashboard frame.
35. Reinstall all removed parts.
Driver's and Passenger's Dashboard Side Lids
36. Remove the driver's and passenger's dashboard side lids:
^ Refer to step 10 on page 20-109 of the service manual, or
^ Online, enter keyword HANGER BEAM, and select Dashboard/Steering Hanger Beam Removal/Installation from the list, then click to step 10.
37. Cut twelve 10 mm x 20 mm pieces of wool felt, remove the adhesive backing, and apply six pieces to the ribs on each lid.
38. Reinstall both side lids.
39. Make sure the EPT sealer and the wool felt you applied is not visible anywhere.
40. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
41. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
42. Enter the anti-theft codes for the audio unit and navigation system, then enter the client's presets.
