Rattle From the Rear Shelf

SYMPTOM
A rattle from the rear shelf area when driving on a rough road.

PROBABLE CAUSE
Contact between the rear shelf and the rear window sunshade.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Install wool felt on the rear shelf and sunshade.

REQUIRED MATERIALS

Wool Felt: P/N 06993-SA5-000 (One roll repairs five vehicles.)

Out of warranty:
Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Remove the rear shelf:

^ Refer to page 20-79 of the 2005 RL Service Manual, or

^ Online, enter keywords REAR SHELF, and select Interior Trim Removal/Installation - Rear Shelf Area from the list.

2. Remove the rear window sunshade:

^ Refer to page 20-80 of the 2005 RL Service Manual, or

^ Online, enter keywords SHADE REMOVAL, and select Rear Window Sunshade Removal/Installation from the list.

3. Cut the wool felt to these dimensions:

^ 1,100 mm x 5 mm (for the rear shelf)

^ 800 mm x 10 mm (for the sunshade)





4. Remove the adhesive backing, and install the felt onto the rear shelf and sunshade as shown.

5. Reinstall all parts in the reverse order of removal.
