DTC 81-79

DTC 81-79: Front Passenger's Weight Sensors Drift Check Failure ('05-06 Models)

1. Erase the DTC memory.
2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.

Does the SRS indicator stay on, and is DTC 81-79 indicated?

YES - Go to step 3.

NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview If another DTC is indicated, go to the DTC Troubleshooting Index. Diagnostic Trouble Code Descriptions

3. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
4. Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat.
5. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.

Does the SRS indicator go off?

YES - The system is OK.

NO - Remove the front passenger's seat assembly and front passenger's weight sensors, then reinstall them. Calibrate the front passenger's weight sensor unit. Retry the troubleshooting. If DTC 81-79 is indicated repeatedly, replace the front passenger's weight sensors.
