Body - Power Window(s) Scrape and Bind
Power Window Binds or Scrapes, Changes DirectionIf the power window in a 04-06 TL binds or scrapes or it stops and changes direction, follow these steps to makes things right:
1. Remove the door panel and the plastic liner. See the Body section of the '04-06 TL S/M. (Online, enter DOOR, and select Door Panel Removal/Installation from the list.)
2. Carefully raise or lower the glass until you can access the two regulator mounting bolts, then loosen the bolts.
3. Push the glass all the way back against the run channel, then torque the bolts to 9.8 N.m (7.2 lb-ft).
4. Check power window operation.
^ If the glass moves freely without noise, reinstall the plastic liner and the door panel. Return the vehicle to your service client.
^ If the glass still binds or makes noise, use a clean shop towel to wipe the glass run channel and then lubricate the channel with Shin-Ftsu Silicone Grease (P/N 08798-9013).
5. Check power window operation.
^ If the glass now moves freely without noise, reinstall the plastic liner and the door panel. Return the vehicle to your client.
^ If the glass still binds or makes noise, the glass run channel is damaged. Replace the glass run channel.
6. Repeat steps 2 and 3, then check power window operation.
^ If the glass now moves freely without noise, reinstall the plastic liner and the door panel. Return the vehicle to your client.
^ If the glass still binds or makes noise, look for other possible causes.
