DIAGNOSIS
*NOTE:
For proper diagnosis, make sure the Genie remote transmitter has fresh batteries.*
1. Clear any previously learned codes by pressing and holding the two outside buttons on the HomeLink unit about 20 seconds. When the red indicator on the unit starts blinking, release the two buttons.
2. *Point the remote transmitter straight up at the HomeLink unit from exactly 4 inches away. Use a ruler to check the distance. Make sure you can clearly see the red indicator on the unit.*
3. Press and hold the button on the remote transmitter and one of the buttons on the HomeLink unit at the same time.
4. Wait about 20 seconds while watching the red indicator on the unit.
^ *If the red indicator starts out blinking slowly and then blinks faster, the unit is OK. Release the two buttons. Clear the learned code by pressing and holding the two outside buttons about 20 seconds until the red indicator starts blinking, then release the buttons. Explain to your client that garage door remote transmitters come in two types: fixed code and rolling code. Each type has its own programming method, and each method is clearly explained in the owner's manual. If your client has concerns about the HomeLink unit, he or she can call the HomeLink assistance desk at 800-355-3515.*
^ If the red indicator does not blink, replace the HomeLink unit. Go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.
