DIAGNOSIS

1. Drive the vehicle over bumps or rough roads, and listen for a squeak or rattle coming from under the seat.

2. Park the vehicle. With the palm of your hand, hit the top of the seat at the front, the back, and either side. Listen for a squeak or rattle coming from under the seat.

^ If you hear a squeak or rattle when driving the vehicle or hitting the seat, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.

^ If you don't hear a squeak or rattle under these conditions, this bulletin does not apply. Continue with normal troubleshooting.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the audio system and the navigation system (if equipped). Write down the presets for the XM(R) Satellite Radio (if equipped).

2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.

3. Remove the front passenger's seat:

^ Refer to the Body section of the appropriate service manual, or

^ Online, enter keyword SEAT, and select Front Seat Removal/Installation from the list.

4. Separate the seat tracks from the front passenger's weight sensors:

^ Using a TORX 130 bit, remove the two 6 x 22 tamper-resistant TORX bolts.

* ^ Using a TORX 140 bit, remove the four 8 x 19 tamper-resistant TORX bolts.*

5. Cut two 10 mm x 25 mm pieces of felt. Apply the felt between the two rivets on the bottom of the seat track.

6. Attach the seat weight sensor assemblies to the seat track using new TORX bolts. Tighten the bolts by hand.

7. Place the seat in position, and hand-tighten the anchor bolts. Do not torque the bolts.

8. Center the outer weight sensor on the seat track:

^ Push the sensor outward, and mark the position of the bolt head.

^ Push the sensor inward, and mark the position of the bolt head.

^ Center the bolt between the two marks, then torque the bolt to 14 N.m (10 lb-ft).

9. Repeat step 8 for the inner weight sensor.

10. Torque the remaining four TORX bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb-ft).

11. Install the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal. Torque the anchor bolts to 34 N.m (25 lb-ft).

12. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

13. Do the ODS Unit Operation Check. If needed, calibrate the ODS unit:

^ Refer to the Restraints section of the appropriate service manual, or

^ Online, enter keyword ODS, and select ODS Unit Operation Check or ODS Calibration from the list.

14. Confirm proper operation of the SRS system by turning the ignition switch to the ON (II) position. The SRS indicator should come on for about 6 seconds, and then go off.

15. Enter the anti-theft codes for the audio system and the navigation system (if equipped). Enter the presets for the XM radio (if equipped). Set the clock.
