DTC 81-61: No Signal from Front Passenger's Weight Sensor UnitDTC 81-62: Non-stipulated Response Data
1. Erase the DTC memory.
2. Read the DTC.
Is DTC 81-61 or 81-62 indicated?
YES - Go to step 3.
NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview If another DTC is indicated, go to the DTC Troubleshooting Index. Diagnostic Trouble Code Descriptions
3. Check the connection between the floor wire harness 6P connector and the front passenger's weight sensor unit.
Is the connection OK?
YES - Go to step 4.
NO - Repair the poor connection and retest. If DTC 81-61 or 81-62 is still present, go to step 4.
4. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
5. Check the No. 10 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES - Go to step 6.
NO - Replace the fuse, then turn the ignition switch ON (II). If the fuse blows again, check for a short in the No. 10 (7.5 A) fuse circuit (dashboard wire harness A or right side wire harness).
6. Disconnect the right side wire harness 6P connector C from the front passenger's weight sensor unit.
7. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
8. Check for voltage between the No. 3 terminal of the front passenger's weight sensor unit 6P connector C and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
Is there battery voltage?
YES - Go to step 13.
NO - Go to step 9.
9. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
10. Disconnect dashboard wire harness A 34Pconnector C651 (A) from the right side wire harness C651 (B).
11. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
12. Check for voltage between the No. 34 terminal of dashboard wire harness A 34P connector C651 and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
Is there battery voltage?
YES - Open in the WHT wire of the right side wire harness; replace the right side wire harness.
NO - Open in the WHT wire of dashboard wire harness A; replace dashboard wire harness A.
13. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
14. Check resistance between the No. 6 terminal of the front passenger's weight sensor unit 6P connector C and body ground. There should be 0-1.0 Ohm.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Go to step 15.
NO - Open in the BLK wire of the right side wire harness; check for poor ground connection at G651. If the connection is OK, replace the right side wire harness.
15. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, and wait for 3 minutes.
16. Disconnect both seat belt tensioner 4P connectors.
17. Disconnect SRS unit connector A (28P) from the SRS unit. Disconnect OPDS unit 8P connector D from the OPDS unit.
18. Check resistance between the No. 14 terminal of SRS unit connector A (28P) and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Go to step 19.
NO - Go to step 22.
19. Check resistance between the No. 14 terminal of SRS unit connector A (28P) and the No. 5 terminal of the front passenger's weight sensor unit 6P connector C. There should be 0-1.0 Ohm.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Faulty front passenger's weight sensor unit or SRS unit; replace the front passenger's weight sensor unit. If the problem is still present, replace the SRS unit.
NO - Go to step 20.
20. Disconnect left side wire harness 16P connector C604 (A) from the right side wire harness C604 (B).
21. Check resistance between the No. 14 terminal of SRS unit connector B (28P) and the No. 8 [No. 11] terminal of right side wire harness 16P connector. There should be 0-1.0 Ohm.

Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Open in the GRN wire of the left side wire harness; replace the left side wire harness.
NO - Open in the right side wire harness; replace the right side wire harness.
22. Disconnect dashboard wire harness A 23P connector C601 (A) from left side wire harness C601 (B).
23. Check resistance between the No. 14 terminal of SRS unit connector A (28P) and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Short to ground in dashboard wire harness A; replace dashboard harness A.
NO - Short to ground in the left side wire harness; replace the left side wire harness.
