Symptom Troubleshooting Information

Symptom troubleshooting by the Immobilizer Indicator Lighting Pattern

Immobilizer and keyless access system condition can be checked by the immobilizer indicator lighting pattern.

Normal operation
When the ignition switch is turned ON (II) and the immobilizer code is identified, the immobilizer indicator comes on for 2 seconds, then goes off.
The immobilizer indicator blinks five times when the ignition switch is turned OFF.

Immobilizer code is not identified
When the ignition switch is turned ON (II) but the immobilizer code is not identified, the immobilizer indicator comes on for 2 seconds, then blinks.
The immobilizer indicator goes off when the ignition switch is turned OFF.

+B line open
When the ignition switch is turned ON (II) and the immobilizer code is identified, the immobilizer indicator comes on for 2 seconds, then goes off.
The immobilizer indicator goes off when the ignition switch is turned OFF.

Immobilizer indicator does not come on
If the immobilizer indicator does not come on when the ignition switch is turned ON (II), check for an open in the wire shown:

When the built-in key is used:
- Check for continuity between the immobilizer control unit-receiver and the keyless access control unit.
- Check for continuity of the keyless access control unit IG1 and IG2 line.
- Check for continuity between the immobilizer control unit-receiver and the gauge control module (IMOLMP line).

When the keyless access FOB is used;
- Check for continuity of the keyless access control unit IG1 and IG2 line.
- Check for continuity between the immobilizer control unit-receiver and the gauge control module (IMOLMP line).
- Check for continuity between the keyless access control unit and body ground.

Immobilizer indicator does not go off
If the immobilizer indicator does not go off after the ignition switch is turned ON (II), check for a short to ground in the immobilizer circuit between the gauge module and the immobilizer control unit-receiver.
- Check for continuity between the immobilizer control unit-receiver and the gauge control module.
- Check for continuity between the keyless access control unit and the gauge control module.

Symptom troubleshooting of an open power supply and ground circuit

If a malfunction occurs in the immobilizer circuit for the +B, IG and GND (LG) lines, identify the lines to check with this table.

General check before Troubleshooting
Before troubleshooting the immobilizer system, check the following general points and solve any if applicable.
- Battery is low; charge the battery fully, then troubleshoot the immobilizer system.
- Ignition key is not a genuine Acura part; use the Acura- approved key blank, then troubleshoot the immobilizer system.
- Key ring, or keys, or a key case is used; remove the key from it, and troubleshoot the immobilizer system with a key only.
- Aftermarket electrical part is attached; remove it, then troubleshoot the immobilizer system.

How to Troubleshoot
Connect the HDS to the data link connector, then turn the ignition switch ON (II) with the built-in key. Check the Status Check with the HDS.

Status Check
If a Status Check result is indicated on the HDS display, troubleshoot the appropriate items in the table. If there is no Status Check result, go to Status Log.

Status Log
If the symptom does not occur again during the Status Check, check the Status Log with the HDS, and troubleshoot the items by the Status Log table shown.
Check the possible failure of the status firstly which Status Log is counted up mostly when some Status Log was counted.

Engine does not start with the built-in key.

NOTE:
- If there is a keyless access system symptom, troubleshoot the keyless access system first.
- Before troubleshooting, check the items listed in "General Check before Troubleshooting".

1. Try to start the engine with the built-in key.

Does the engine start?

YES - Refer to the Status Log.

NO - Go to step 2.

2. With the HDS, check the immobilizer system status check results.

Is a result listed?

YES - Check the items in the Status Check table.

NO - Go to step 3.

3. Check the immobilizer indicator operation.

Does the immobilizer indicator work normally?

YES - The immobilizer system is OK at this time.

NO - Go to Symptom Troubleshooting by the Immobilizer Indicator.
