Strut / Shock Tower: Service and Repair






Removal




- Remove the front member.
When removing the front member, replace the damper housing separator.
- Remove the front wheelhouse lower extension and lower member as an assembly.
- Check the damper housing position, and check for damage. If necessary, replace it.




- Replace the wheelhouse upper member, damper housing, and front housing extension as an assembly.

Installation

1. Set the new damper housing, front wheelhouse lower extension,and front bulkhead into position,and measure the front compartment diagonally.
2. Tack weld the damper housing and front wheelhouse lower extension.
Check the body dimensions, engine compartment, engine side mount and front wheelhouse lower member positions , engine compartment and front floor under view , repair chart top view , and repair chart side view.
3. Temporarily install the front subframe, and check the front side frame position.
4. Temporarily install the hood, front fender,headlight, and front bumper, then check for differences in level and clearance. Make sure the body lines flow smoothly.










5. Do the main welding.
- Weld the damper housing (A), front housing extension (B) to the dashboard upper (C), and front side frame (D).
- Weld the wheelhouse upper member (E) and dashboard upper side member (F).
- From the passenger's compartment side, plug weld the holes in the dashboard lower (G), and front housing extension.




6. Weld the front wheelhouse lower extension (A) and lower member (B) to the wheelhouse upper member (C) and front side gusset (D).




7. Install the new damper housing separator (A).

NOTE: Apply the sealer (B) all the way around the separator and inside surface of the front member, then without gape.




8. Weld the front member (A).
