Door Pocket Is Loose or Won't Stay Closed

SYMPTOM

The driver's or front passenger's door panel pocket is loose or won't stay closed.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The plastic spring mount on the door pocket has weakened.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the door pocket.

KTC Trim Tool Set: T/N SOJATP2O14
Trim Pad Remover: Snap-on A1 77A or equivalent,
commercially available





WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION

The normal warranty applies.

REPAIR PROCEDURE





1. Using a trim tool, push on the bottom hook, and pivot the cover on the two upper hooks, then detach the front hook. Remove the cover and the screw securing the inner door handle.





2. 2009-10 models: Using a trim tool, push up the rubber mat, then remove the screw.





3. Using a trim tool, pull the top edge of the pocket light cover out to expose the two hooks. Release the hooks, remove the pocket light cover, then remove the screw.





4. Using a trim tool, pry out the notch of the door pull grip cover to detach the hook, then pull out the cover to release the remaining two hooks. Remove the screw.

5. Remove the door panel with as little bending as possible to avoid creasing or breaking it.

^ Release the 11 clips that hold the door panel in place using a commercially available trim pad remover.

^ While holding the door panel away from the door, disconnect the door subharness connector and the power mirror connector. Disconnect the trunk lid and fuel door openers.





NOTE:
The inner handle cable and the lock cable are connected to the door panel. Do not pull the door panel up too far, or the inner handle cable will be damaged.

6. Replace all 11 door panel clips with new ones.





7. Remove the four screws from the back of the door panel, then remove the door pocket.





8. Install the new door pocket to the door panel, and attach it with the four screws through the back of the door panel.





9. Make sure the latch cable is fixed to the cable fastener with the latch in the lock position as shown below.

10. Install the door panel with as little bending as possible to avoid creasing or breaking it.

^ While holding the door panel away from the door, install the inner handle, with its three screws.

^ While holding the door panel away from the door, reconnect the door subharness connector and the power mirror connector. Reconnect the trunk lid and fuel door openers.

^ Make sure the plastic cover is installed properly to seal out water.





^ Push in the door panel to attach the 11 clips.





11. Reinstall the screw and the cover to the door pull grip.





12. Reinstall the screw and the pocket light cover.





13. 2009-10 models: Reinstall the screw and the rubber mat.





14. Reinstall the screw securing the inner door handle and the cover.

15. Make sure the power windows, the door locks, and the trunk lid and fuel door openers work properly.
