Dashboard/Steering Hanger Beam Removal/InstallationSpecial Tools Required

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before doing repairs or service.
NOTE:
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when prying components.
- Have an assistant help you when removing and installing the dashboard.
- Take care not to scratch the dash board/steering hanger beam, body and other related parts.
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the radio and the navigation system, then write down the radio presets.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable, and wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.
3. Remove these items:
- Driver's dashboard undercover
- Passenger's dashboard uncle recover
- Center console
- Utility pocket housing
- Instrument fascia
- Driver's dashboard lower cover
- Glove box
- Kick panels, both sides
- A-pillar trim, both sides
- Steering column
4. Disconnect the hood opener cable
Driver's side
5. From under the dash, disconnect the keyless access control unit connectors (A), brake switch connector (B), left side wire harness connectors (C), engine compartment wire harness connectors (D), and disconnect the dashboard wire harness connectors (E) and combination sub wire harness connector (F) from the driver's under-dash fusel relay box (G), then release the wire harness clips.
NOTE: Lift the white wire harness connector locks (H) before trying to remove the connectors from the fuse box.
Middle portion (shift lever portion)
6. Disconnect and detach the left side wire harness connectors (A, B), release the wire harness clips (C), then remove the rear vent duct A (D). Disconnect the left side wire harness connectors (E) and dashboard wire harness connector (F) from the SRS control unit, and yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor connector (G).Using a T30 TORX bit, remove the ground bolt (H).
Center (passenger's side)
7. From under the dash, release the clip, and pull the carpet (A) back. Disconnect and detach the PCM connectors (B), engine wire harness connector (C).
Passenger's side
8. From under the dash, disconnect the passenger's door wire harness connector (A), the A/C sub wire harness connectors (B), right side wire harness connectors (C) engine compartment wire harness connector (D), and disconnect the dashboard wire harness connectors (E) from the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box (F).
9. Detach all of the harness and connector clips.
10. Open the passenger's door, and gently pull out along the rear edge to release the hooks (A), then remove the passenger's dashboard side lid (B).
11. Open the driver's door, and remove the caps (A), then remove the bolts (B, C), loosen two bolts (D), and lift up on the dashboard (E) to release it from the guide pins (F, G).
NOTE: Before removing the dashboard/steering hanger beam, make sure all the harnesses have been disconnected.
12. Carefully remove the dashboard/steering hanger beam through the front door opening.
NOTE: Lay the dashboard on its front or back. Do not rest it on the lower console opening or you may damage it.
13. Remove the bolts, then remove the center bracket (A).
14. Install the dashboard/steering hanger beam in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Reinstall the center bracket on the center frame, and slightly tighten the mounting bolts. Reinstall the dashboard on the body. After tightening the dashboard mounting bolts and nut, tighten the center bracket mounting bolts and center frame mounting bolts.
- Make sure the dashboard/steering hanger beam fits onto the guide pins correctly.
- Apply liquid thread lock to the bolts securing the center bracket and the dashboard before reinstallation.
- Before tightening the bolts, make sure the wire harnesses are not pinched.
- Make sure the connectors are plugged in properly.
- Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
- Enter the anti-theft codes for the radio and the navigation system, then enter the radio presets.
- Check for any DTCs that may have been set during repairs, and clear them.
- Reset the power window control unit.
- Do the steering column position memorization.
