Front Center Speaker Grille Rattles
SYMPTOM
The front center speaker grille rattles when the vehicle interior is hot.
PROBABLE CAUSE
The speaker foam gasket rubs against the bottom of the speaker grille.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Apply EPT sealer over the top of the existing speaker foam.
REQUIRED MATERIALS
EPT Sealer 31 (one roll will repair about 70 vehicles):

Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.
DIAGNOSIS
1. Leave the vehicle in the sun for about 2 hours.
NOTE:
The symptom usually occurs when the interior temperature is about 90°F or hotter.
2. Drive the vehicle to reproduce the rattle. When you hear the rattle, apply pressure to the center of the speaker grille.
^ If the rattle changes when you apply pressure, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.
^ If the rattle is not affected by the pressure, continue with normal troubleshooting.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
NOTE:
Be careful not to scratch the dashboard and related components when removing the center speaker grille.
1. Carefully pry the front center speaker/grille assembly out of the dashboard, then disconnect the 2P connector from the speaker.
2004-06 Models -
^ Refer to page 22-444 of the 04-06 TL Service Manual, or
^ Online, enter keywords SPEAKER REPLACEMENT, and select Speaker Replacement from the list.
2007-08 Models -
^ Refer to page 23-93 of the 07-08 TL Service Manual, or
^ Online, enter keywords SPEAKER REPLACEMENT, and select Speaker Test( Replacement from the list.
2. Remove the two screws from the speaker, then remove the speaker.
3. Cut a 10 mm x 260 mm piece of EPT sealer.
4. Apply the EPT sealer to the top of the speaker foam as shown.
NOTE:
Make sure the EPT covers the entire surface of the speaker foam.
5. Reinstall the speaker to the grille.
6. Connect the 2P connector, and snap the speaker/grille assembly back into the dashboard.
