PARTS INFORMATION

TOOL INFORMATION

You must wear a wrist strap that is grounded to a good grounding source while handling the HandsFreeLink (HFL) printed circuit boards (PCBs). Any static electricity could damage the PCBs. Additional wrist straps are available at most electronics stores.

When installing the PCB cover onto the new bezel, do not overtighten the screws. To do the job properly, you need a precision torque screwdriver that can accurately torque the screws.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Carefully pry the moonroof switch out of the roof console, and disconnect the 7P connector.

2. Reach into the hole for the moon roof switch, and pull down on the roof console to release the clip. Remove the roof console, and disconnect the 20P connector.

*3. Remove the roof console bezel, and disconnect the 22P connector. Type-S models only Disconnect the front microphone connector.*

*4. Type-S models only Remove the two screws holding the active noise control front microphone using a 125 TORX driver, then remove it from the roof console bezel.*

5. Using isopropyl alcohol, thoroughly clean the bezel mounting bracket at the four attachment points.

NOTE:

^ Do not use any other type of cleaning fluid.

^ Make sure that the bracket is clean, completely dry, and free of chemicals before installing the new bezel.

6. Install one of the previously removed bezel attachment bolts (5 x 12 mm) into the bracket, and tighten it securely. This allows the mounting bracket to be a convenient grounding location for the wrist strap.

NOTE:
You must wear the electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap at all times during the HFL unit transfer. The PCBs could be damaged by grease, debris, or electrical discharge. Before connecting the ESD strap to your wrist and beginning the HFL transfer, make sure that your hands are clean and the following items are within easy reach:

^ New bezel

^ Small plastic trim tool

^ T10 TORX bit

^ Torque wrench/screwdriver

7. Put on the wrist strap. Using an alligator clip, connect the grounding cord from your wrist to the bracket.

8. Remove the three TORX fasteners that hold the HFL PCB cover onto the bezel.

9. While holding the bezel in its normal orientation, carefully lift off the cover to expose the PCBs. Set the cover aside with the label facing up to prevent possible contamination upon reassembly.

10. Carefully lift off the PCB from the broken bezel, and place it onto the new bezel. Make sure that the lower PCB is properly set against the guide ribs and onto the two rib positioning posts.

NOTE:

^ Do not grip the PCB like a sandwich. Always handle them from the edges.

^ If the lower PCB gets hung up on any of the guide pins or rib posts, carefully pry up on the edge of the lower PCB with a small plastic trim tool.

^ Do not bend the PCB.

^ If the dual PCBs become disconnected, carefully reconnect them by aligning the male and female sockets and pressing them back together.

11. Install the PCB cover onto the new bezel with the three TORX fasteners.

12. Remove the ESD wrist strap and the ground bolt that were installed in steps 6 and 7.

13. Reinstall all removed parts in reverse order of removal.
