DTC 92-2X

DTC 92-2x (92-20 to 92-29,92-2A to 92-2F): Short to Ground in Passenger's Airbag Cutoff Indicator ('06 model)

NOTE: This DTC can be set if the key is turned on when the passenger's airbag cutoff indicator is unplugged.

1. Erase the DTC memory.
2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.

Does the SRS indicator stay on, and is DTC 92-2x indicated?

YES - Go to step 3.

NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview If another DTC is indicated, go to the DTC Troubleshooting Index. Diagnostic Trouble Code Descriptions

3. Check the connection between the dashboard wire harness 6P connector and the passenger's airbag cutoff indicator.
4. Erase the DTC memory.
5. Check for a DTC.

Is DTC 92-2x indicated?

YES - Go to step 6.

NO - Repair the poor connections and retest. If DTC 92-2x is still present, go to step 6.

6. Check the No. 21 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.

Is the fuse OK?

YES - Go to step 7.

NO - Replace the fuse, then turn the ignition switch ON (II). If the fuse blows again, check for a short in the No. 21 (7.5 A) fuse circuit (dashboard wire harness A).




7. Disconnect the passenger's airbag cutoff indicator 7P connector.
8. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).




9. Check for voltage between the No. 7 terminal of the passenger's airbag cutoff indicator 7P connector and body ground. There should be battery voltage.


Is there battery voltage?

YES - Go to step 10.

NO - Open in the dashboard wire harness; replace the dashboard wire harness.

10. Turn the ignition switch OFF. Disconnect the battery negative cable, and wait for 3 minutes.
11. Disconnect SRS unit connector A(28P)from the SRS unit.




12. Reconnect the dashboard wire harness 7P connector to the passenger's airbag cutoff indicator.
13. Reconnect the battery negative cable.




14. Connect the No. 20 terminal of SRS unit connector A (28P) to body ground with a jumper wire.
15. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
16. Check the passenger's airbag cutoff indicator.

Does the passenger's airbag cutoff indicator come on?

YES - Faulty SRS unit; replace the SRS unit.

NO - Go to step 17.

17. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
18. Disconnect the jumper wire.




19. Disconnect the passenger's airbag cutoff indicator 7P connector again.




20. Check resistance between the No. 3 terminal of the passenger's airbag cutoff indicator 7P connector and the No. 20 terminal of SRS unit connector A (28P). There should be 0 - 1.0 Ohm.

Is the resistance as specified?

YES - Go to step 23.

NO - Go to step 21.




21. Disconnect SRS unit connector A (28P) from the SRS unit.




22. Check resistance between the No. 3 terminal of the passenger's airbag cutoff indicator 7P connector and the No. 20 terminal of dashboard wire harness 28P connector C801. There should be 0 - 1.0 Ohm.

Is the resistance as specified?

YES - Open in the dashboard wire harness; replace the dashboard wire harness.

NO - Go to step 23.




23. Check resistance between the No. 20 terminal of SRS unit connector A (28P) and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhm.

Is the resistance as specified?

YES - Check for faulty SRS unit or passenger's airbag cutoff indicator; replace the passenger's airbag cutoff indicator. If the problem is still present, replace the SRS unit.

NO - Go to step 24.




24. Check resistance between the No. 20 terminal of SRS unit connector A (28P) and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhm.

Is the resistance as specified?

YES - Short to ground in dashboard wire harness; replace dashboard wire harness.

NO - Go to step 25.




25. Disconnect SRS unit connector A (28P) from the SRS unit.




26. Check resistance between the No. 20 terminal of SRS unit connector A (28P) and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhm.

Is the resistance as specified?

YES - Short to ground in the SRS main harness; replace the SRS main harness.

NO - Short to ground in the dashboard wire harness; replace the dashboard wire harness.
