Rear Brakes Squeal

(Supersedes 07-029, dated June 19, 2007, to revise the information marked by the asterisks)

*REVISION SUMMARY

Under WARRANTY CLAIM IN FORMATION, the flat rate time was revised after the operation was reviewed and validated.*

SYMPTOM

The rear brakes squeal during the first few applications in the morning.

PROBABLE CAUSE

Improper brake pad material.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Install new rear brake pads, and refinish the rear brake discs.

NOTE:
Do not use these replacement brake pads in areas where road salt* is used. They may not sufficiently remove the buildup of rust from the brake discs, causing a scraping noise while braking, brake judder, or both. If rear brake squeal occurs in areas where road salt is used, continue with normal troubleshooting.

*Road salt is commonly used in an area known as the "salt belt." The salt belt includes these states - Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin - and Washington D.C.
