Campaign - Compass CD-ROM Update: Overview
07-047October 12, 2007
Applies To:
2007 RL Base Model - VIN JH4KB1...7C000001 thru JH4KB1...7C002576
Product Update:
Improving the Elevation and Clock Settings (Supersedes 07-047, dated August 25, 2007, to update the information marked by asterisks)
BACKGROUND
Clients complain that the elevation on the compass displays in meters instead of feet, and the time and date on the compass screen are difficult to set correctly.
CLIENT NOTIFICATION
All owners of affected vehicles were mailed a notification of this product update and a new replacement version 4.56 CD-ROM. While this notification instructs clients how to replace the CD-ROM by themselves, some may still return to your dealership and ask you to replace it for them.
*NOTE:
Your clients may be confused about the terminology used to describe their navigation system. Although the client letter refers to the compass unit as a navigation unit, the unit is basically a navigation system that only shows compass system features.*
Some vehicles affected by this campaign may still be in dealer inventory. For dealers with an existing inventory of affected vehicles, individual mailers with a CD-ROM were marked with the VIN of the affected vehicle and mailed to the dealerships. If a vehicle is no longer in your inventory, contact the client directly, and have them bring the vehicle in so you can install the CD-ROM.
Not all vehicles within the affected VIN range are affected by this campaign. To verify that a vehicle is eligible, check for at least one of these items:
^ The vehicle already has a version 4.56 CD-ROM.
^ The client has a notification letter.
^ The vehicle is shown on your campaign responsibility report.
^ The vehicle is shown as eligible on a VIN status inquiry.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
*Replace the navigation/compass CD-ROM in any affected vehicles in your inventory and for any clients who need assistance.*

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Park the vehicle outside with a clear view of the sky.
2. Start the engine, and let it idle.
*3. Press the OPEN button on the navigation/compass unit. The unit is located on the left side of the trunk.*
4. Press the EJECT button.
5. Remove the original CD-ROM, and discard it.
6. Insert the new version 4.56 CD-ROM with its white label facing up.
NOTE:
Do not insert the compass CD into any other navigation-equipped vehicle. That vehicle's navigation unit may no longer function, and a forced download will be required to restore the original software.
7. Close the front cover of the navigation unit.
8. The compass screen turns black for a few seconds, then an update progress bar appears.
NOTE:
Do not turn the engine off until the download is complete.
9. After the download is complete, the compass system will restart and display the disclaimer screen.
NOTE:
If the Enter Code screen is displayed, enter the 4-digit navigation security code. Refer to Service Bulletin 04-032, 2005-08 HL: TQI of the DVD Navigation System With Voice Recognition.
10. Select OK on the disclaimer screen.
11. Press the SETUP button, and select Clock Adjustment. Adjust the time so that both the date and time (AM or PM) are correct.
NOTE:
^ The elevation is only an estimate.
^ If no elevation is displayed, make sure you are in an open area with a clear view of the sky.
