DTC B1173: Gauge Control Module Lost Communication with TPMS Control Unit (TPMS Message)

NOTE: If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A.

1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
2. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and then back ON (II).
3. Check for the DTCs in the TPMS with the HDS.

Are any DTCs indicated?

YES - Go to step 4.

NO - Troubleshoot the indicated TPMS DTCs.

4. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and then back ON (II).
5. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC B1173 indicated?

YES - Go to step 6.

NO - Intermittent failure, the F-CAN communication line is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections. If the connections are good, check the battery condition, and the charging system.

6. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
7. Disconnect the gauge control module connector A (30P).
8. Disconnect the TPMS control unit connector B (20P).




9. Check for continuity between the No. 13 and No. 14 terminals of the gauge control module connector A (30P) and the No. 19 and No. 10 terminals of the TPMS control unit connector B (20P) respectively.

Is there continuity?

YES - Substitute a known-good TPMS control unit, and recheck. If DTC B1173 is indicated again, replace the gauge control module.

NO - Repair an open in the wire between the gauge control module and the TPMS control unit.
