REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Remove the driver's seat:

^ Refer to page 20-101 of the 04-06 TL Service Manual (2004-06 models) or page 20-1 Os of the 07-08 TL Service Manual (2007-08 models), or

^ Online, enter keywords FRONT SEAT REM, and select Front Seat Removal/Installation.

2. Remove the screws, then release the hooks to remove the front cover.

3. Remove the screw, then release the hooks to pull off the recline cover. Disconnect the connectors.

4. Gently pull out the center cover to release the hooks, and remove the cover.

5. Make sure there is no gap between the two washers on the bolts and the seat frame.

NOTE:
If it is not clear if there is no gap, remove each of the bolts, and make sure the washers are properly keyed to the shaft.

^ If the washers are not properly keyed to the shaft, rekey them, then reinstall the bolts. Torque the bolts to 16 if-lb (22 N.m).

NOTE:
The washers and the shafts are not available as service parts. If either the washer or the shaft is damaged and is no longer usable, replace the seat frame.

^ If the washers are properly installed, continue with normal troubleshooting.

6. Reinstall all parts in the reverse order of removal.

7. Check the seat cushion to make sure it doesn't rock.
