Hub Bearing Unit Replacement
1. Raise the rear of the vehicle, and support it with safety stands in the proper locations.
2. Remove the wheel nuts, and rear wheel.
3. Remove the brake hose mounting bracket (A).
4. Remove the brake caliper bracket mounting bolts (B), and remove the caliper assembly (C) from the knuckle. To prevent damage to the caliper assembly or brake hose, use a short piece of wire to hang the caliper assembly from the undercarriage. Do not twist the brake hose with force.
5. Remove the two washers (A).
6. Remove the 6 mm brake disc retaining screws (A).
7. Remove the brake disc (B) from the hub bearing unit.
NOTE: If the brake disc has clung to the hub, screw two 8 x 1.25 mm bolts (C) into the disc to push it away from the hub. Turn each bolt two turns at a time to prevent cocking the disc excessively.
8. Remove the hub bearing unit (A) and O-ring (B).
9. Install the hub bearing unit in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
^ Tighten all mounting hardware to the specified torque values.
^ Use a new O-ring on reassembly.
^ Before installing the brake disc, clean the matching surfaces of the hub bearing unit and brake disc.
^ Before installing the wheel, clean the mating surfaces of the brake disc and the inside of the wheel.
^ Check the wheel alignment, and adjust it if necessary.
Knuckle Replacement
1. Remove the hub bearing unit.
2. Remove the splash guard (A).
3. Remove the lock pin (A) from the upper arm ball joint, and loosen the nut (B).
NOTE: During installation, install the lock pin after tightening the new nut as shown.
4. Disconnect the upper arm ball joint from the knuckle using the ball joint remover.
5. Remove the self-locking nut (A) while holding the joint pin (B) with a hex wrench (C), and disconnect the stabilizer link (D) from the stabilizer link bracket (E).
6. Remove the damper lower mounting bolt (F), and disconnect the damper from the knuckle.
NOTE: Use a new mounting bolt on reassembly.
7. Remove the wheel sensor (A) from the knuckle. Do not disconnect the wheel sensor connector.
8. Remove the stabilizer link bracket (B) from the knuckle.
NOTE: Use a new bolt on reassembly.
9. Remove the leading arm mounting bolt (A) from the knuckle.
NOTE: Use a new mounting bolt on reassembly.
10. Remove the control arm mounting nut (A) and washer (B).
NOTE: Use a new mounting nut on reassembly.
11. Remove the trailing arm mounting bolt (A) from the knuckle.
NOTE: Use a new mounting bolt on reassembly.
12. Remove the lower arm mounting bolt (A), and remove the knuckle (B).
NOTE: Use a new mounting bolt and a new nut on reassembly.
13. Install the knuckle in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
^ Be careful not to damage the ball joint boot when installing the knuckle.
^ Tighten all mounting hardware to the specified torque values.
^ First install all of the components and lightly tighten the bolts and nuts, then raise the suspension to load it with the vehicle's weight before fully tightening to the specified torque values.
^ Use new self-locking nut on reassembly.
^ Torque the castle nut to the lower torque value, then tighten it only far enough to align the slot with the hole in the stud. Do not align the castle nut by loosening it.
^ Before installing the wheel, clean the mating surface on the brake disc and the inside of the wheel.
^ Check the wheel alignment, and adjust it if necessary.
