DTC P0335: Crankshaft Position (CAP) Sensor A No Signal

General Description
Crankshaft position (CAP) sensor A consists of a rotor and a semiconductor device that detects rotor position. When the engine starts, the rotor turns and the magnetic flux in the semiconductor device changes. The changes of magnetic flux are converted into pulsing signals to the engine control module (ECM)/powertrain control module (PCM). CAP sensor A detects injection/ignition timing for each cylinder and engine speed.

If no pulsing signals from CAP sensor A are detected, a malfunction is detected and a DTC is stored.

Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type, OBD Status

Enable Conditions

Malfunction Threshold
No signals from CAP sensor A are detected while signals from CAP sensor B are detected 127 times in succession.

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for illuminating the MIL
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and the DTC and the freeze frame data are stored in the ECM/PCM memory.

Conditions for clearing the MIL
The MIL will be cleared if the malfunction does not recur during three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs.

The MIL, the DTC, and the freeze frame data can be cleared by using the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the battery.
