Display Panel Control Unit Buttons or Touch Screen Buttons Do Not Work or Respond Properly
Display panel control unit buttons or touch screen buttons do not work or respond properlyNOTE:
- Check the vehicle battery condition first.
- Make sure that the correct DVD color and version are installed.
- Check any official Honda service website for more service information about the navigation system.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Before troubleshooting, make sure you have the navigation and audio system anti-theft codes.
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Try several navigation buttons and touch screen buttons.
Do all buttons function properly?
YES - The system is OK at this time.
NO -
- If all navigation hard buttons and touch screen buttons are inoperative, go to step 3.
- If only some navigation buttons operate normally, while others do not, go into the Diagnostic mode and use Touch Panel diagnostic under Monitor Check and if necessary. Hard Key diagnostic under unit Check.
3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
4. Remove the audio-HVAC display module assembly.
NOTE: Eject all the discs before removing the audio unit to prevent damaging the CD/DVD player's load mechanism.
5. Measure the voltage between body ground and display panel control unit connector A (22P) terminal No. 9 and No. 10 individually.
Is there battery voltage?
YES - Go to step 6.
NO - If the +B wire does not have voltage, repair open in the wire between the under-dash fuse/relay box and the display panel control unit. If the ACC wire does not have voltage, repair open in the wire between the under-dash fuse/relay box and the display panel control unit.
6. Measure the voltage between display panel control unit connector A (22P) terminal No. 5 and body ground.
Is there less than 0.1 V?
YES - Go to step 7.
NO - Repair open in the wire between the display panel control unit and body ground (G501).
7. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
8. Disconnect audio unit connectors B (14P).
9. Disconnect AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (20P) (USA models) or XM receiver connector A (14P) (Canada models).
10. Disconnect display panel control unit connector A (22P) and E (22P).
11. Disconnect navigation unit connector A (20P).
12. Check for continuity between body ground and display panel control unit connector A (22P) terminal No. 7, No. 19 individually.
Is there continuity?
YES - Short to body ground in the wire(s) between the display panel control unit and the audio unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO - Go to step 13.
13. Check for continuity between body ground and display panel control unit connector E (22P) terminal No. 4 and No. 14 individually.
Is there continuity?
YES - Short to body ground in the wire(s) between the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) (USA models) or XM receiver (Canada models), display panel control unit, audio unit and the navigation unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO - Go to step 14.
14. Check for continuity between display panel control unit connector A (22P) terminal No. 18 and terminals No. 7 and No. 19 individually.
Is there continuity?
YES - Short in the wire(s) between the display panel control unit and the audio unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO - Go to step 15.
15. Check for continuity between audio unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 3 and terminals No. 9 and No. 10 individually.
Is there continuity?
YES - Short in the wire(s) between the audio unit and AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) (USA models) or XM receiver (Canada models). Also check for short in the wire between the display panel control unit and the navigation unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO - Go to step 16.
16. Check for continuity between display panel control unit connector E (22P) terminal No. 4 and navigation unit connector A (20P) terminal No. 10.
Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 17.
NO - Open in the wire between the display panel control unit and the navigation unit. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the display panel control unit and navigation unit. If a poor connection or loose terminal is found, replace the affected shielded harness.
17. Check for continuity between display panel control unit connector E (22P) terminal No. 14 and navigation unit connector A (20P) terminal No. 20.
Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 18.
NO - Open in the wire between the display panel control unit and the navigation unit. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the display panel control unit and navigation unit. If a poor connection or loose terminal is found, replace the affected shielded harness.
18. Check for continuity between display panel control unit connector A (22P) terminal No. 7 and audio unit connector C (40P) terminal No. 9.
Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 19.
NO - Open in the wire between the display panel control unit and the audio unit. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the display panel control unit and audio unit. If a poor connection or loose terminal is found, replace the affected shielded harness.
