DTC 68: Brake Pedal Position Switch

1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
2. Check for the fuel and emission systems (PGM-FI) DTCs with the HDS.

Are any ECM/PCM DTCs indicated?

YES - Do the appropriate troubleshooting for the DTC.

NO - Go to step 3.

3. Check the brake pedal position switch.

Is the brake pedal position switch OK?

YES - Go to step 4.

NO - Replace the brake pedal position switch.

4. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
5. Turn the ignition switch OFF, then disconnect the HDS.
6. Test-drive the vehicle.
7. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 68 indicated?

YES - Go to step 8.

NO - The system is OK at this time. Refer to intermittent failures.

8. Troubleshoot the brake pedal position switch signal circuit.

Is the brake pedal position switch circuit OK ?

YES - Substitute a known-good ECM/PCM, and retest:

^ If the problem is gone, replace the original ECM/PCM.
^ If the problem continues, check for loose terminals in the VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector. If no loose terminals are found, replace the VSA modulator-control unit.

NO - Repair the brake pedal position switch circuit.
