DTC 87-3x
DTC 87-3x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F): Side Airbag Cutoff Indicator Stays On/OffNOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures and General Troubleshooting Information.
1. Clear the DTC memory.
2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
Does the SRS indicator stay on?
YES - Go to step 3.
NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
3. Turn the ignition switch OFF. Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat.
4. Disconnect OPDS unit harness 8P connector ('04-05 models) or ODS unit harness 18P connector ('06-08 models) (A) from the OPDS/ODS unit.
5. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
6. Measure the voltage between the No. 3 terminal of OPDS unit harness 8P connector ('04-05 models) or No. 18 terminal of ODS unit harness 18P connector ('06-08 models) and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
Is there battery voltage?
YES - Go to step 11.
NO - Go to step 7.
7. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
8. Remove the gauge control module. Disconnect gauge control module connector A (22P) from the gauge control module.
9. Measure the resistance between the No. 3 terminal of OPDS unit harness 8P connector ('04-05 models) or No. 18 terminal of ODS unit harness 18P connector ('06-08 models) and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 Mohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Go to step 10.
NO - Short to ground in the OPDS/ODS unit harness, floor wire harness or dashboard wire harness; replace the faulty harness.
10. Measure the resistance between the No. 3 terminal of OPDS unit harness 8P connector ('04-05 models) or No. 18 terminal of ODS unit harness 18P connector ('06-08 models) and No. 10 terminal of gauge control module connector A (22P). There should be 0-1.0 ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Replace the gauge control module.
NO - Open in the OPDS/ODS unit harness, floor wire harness or dashboard wire harness; replace the faulty harness.
11. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
12. Remove the gauge control module. Disconnect gauge control module connector A (22P) from the gauge control module.
13. Measure the voltage between the No. 3 terminal of OPDS unit harness 8P connector ('04-05 models) or No. 18 terminal of ODS unit harness 18P connector ('06-08 models) and body ground. There should be 0.5 V or less.
Is there voltage as specified?
YES - Faulty OPDS/ODS unit; replace the OPDS/ODS unit.
NO - Short to power in the OPDS/ODS unit harness, floor wire harness or dashboard wire harness; replace the faulty harness.
