DTC 76-62:
Non-stipulated Response Data From the E-Pretensioner Unit
NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed Service and Repair.
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair, General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes, and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection Procedures.
1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
3. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 76-61 or 76-62 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 4.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
5. Check the No. 31 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box and the No. 4 (30 A) fuse and the No. 8 (30 A) fuse in the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box.
Are the fuses OK?
YES -
Go to step 6.
NO -
Replace the faulty fuse, then turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds. If the fuse blows again, check for a short in the wire harness (E-pretensioner subharness, left side wire harness, right side wire harness, or dashboard wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC, and retest. If the DTC is still present, replace the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box Passengers Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box Removal and Installation or the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box Drivers Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box (MICU) Removal/Installation then clear the DTC.
6. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
7. Disconnect E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) from the E-pretensioner unit.
8. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
9. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
10. Measure the voltage between body ground and E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 8. There should be battery voltage.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Go to step 11.
NO -
Open in the harness between the No. 31 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box and E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 8 (E-pretensioner subharness, left side wire harness, right side wire harness, or dashboard wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
11. Measure the voltage between body ground and E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 12. There should be battery voltage.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Go to step 12.
NO -
Open in the harness between the No. 8 (30 A) fuse in the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box and E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 12 (E-pretensioner subharness or right side wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
12. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
13. Disconnect E-pretensioner unit connector A (5P) from the E-pretensioner unit.
14. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
15. Measure the voltage between body ground and E-pretensioner unit connector A (5P) terminal No. 2. There should be battery voltage.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Go to step 16.
NO -
Open in the harness between No. 4 (30 A) fuse in the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box and E-pretensioner unit connector A (5P) terminal No. 2 (E-pretensioner subharness or right side wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
16. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
17. Measure the resistance between body ground and E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) terminals No. 10 and No. 11 individually. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Are the resistances as specified?
YES -
Go to step 18.
NO -
Open in the E-pretensioner subharness or right side wire harness, or poor connection at the ground G653, or poor connection at the E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P), and the E-pretensioner unit. Check the connectors; if the connection is OK, replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
18. Measure the resistance between body ground and E-pretensioner unit connector A (5P) terminal No. 5. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 19.
NO -
Open in the E-pretensioner subharness or right side wire harness, or poor connection at the ground G653, or poor connection at the E-pretensioner unit connector A (5P), and the E-pretensioner unit. Check the connectors; if the connection is OK, replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
19. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
20. Disconnect SRS unit connect B (39P) from the SRS unit.
21. Disconnect the ODS unit 18P connector (A) from the ODS unit (B).
22. Measure the resistance between body ground and SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1. There should be an open circuit or at least 1M Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 23.
NO -
Short to ground in the E-pretensioner subharness, left side wire harness, or right side wire harness between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 6; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
23. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 6. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Faulty E-pretensioner unit; replace the E-pretensioner unit Removal and Replacement.
NO -
Open in the harness between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 6 (E-pretensioner subharness, left side wire harness, or right side wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
