Audio System Symptom Troubleshooting - USB device does not function

USB device does not function

NOTE:

- Check the vehicle battery condition first Testing and Inspection.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Make sure you have the client's USB device to use for testing.
- Some music players (connected through the USB port) may not work with all models.
- Make sure that the music player connected to the USB port works properly.
- The USB memory used for testing should conform to the USB mass storage class standard.
- The USB function is not compatible with a USB memory of 128 MB or below.
- The music must be saved to the player as WMA (Windows Media Audio) files or MP3. MP3 files saved in a variable bit rate are not compatible.

1. Connect a known-good music player to the USB port.

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

3. Press the AUX button, and check if it changes to USB mode.

Does it change to the USB mode?

YES -

Go to step 4.

NO -

Go to step 15.

4. Check that the client's USB memory device functions properly when connected to a known-good vehicle.

Does the music on the USB play?

YES -

Go to step 5.

NO -

The music player is either defective or incompatible.�

5. Return to the client's vehicle with the client's USB and check if NO DATA appears when the music player is connected to the USB port.

Does NO DATA appear?

YES -

Go to step 6.

NO -

Go to step 11.

6. Check the connectors at USB adapter control unit connector B (5P) and the USB adapter cable and the USB port.

Are the connectors and terminals connected properly?

YES -

Go to step 7.

NO -

Repair the connection, and recheck.�

7. Disconnect USB adapter control unit connector B (5P).

8. Check for continuity between USB adapter control unit connector B (5P) terminals and USB port 5P connector terminals according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

Replace the USB adapter control unit USB Adapter Control Unit Replacement, then recheck.�

NO -

Go to step 9.

9. Disconnect the USB adapter 5P connector.

10. Check for continuity between the USB adapter 5P connector and the USB port 5P connector according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

There is an open in the wire(s) between the USB adapter control unit and the USB adapter. Replace the affected shielded harness.�

NO -

Replace the USB adapter, then recheck.�

11. Turn on the audio unit, and check for sound in each mode (AM, FM, XM, and CD).

Is the sound normal?

YES -

Go to step 12.

NO -

Go to No sound is heard from the speaker(s) troubleshooting No Sound Is Heard From the Speaker(s) (Display Is Normal).�

12. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

13. Disconnect USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) and audio unit connector C (14P).

14. Check for continuity between USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) and audio unit connector C (14P) according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

Replace the USB adapter control unit USB Adapter Control Unit Replacement.�

NO -

There is an open in the wire(s) between the USB adapter control unit and the audio unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�

15. Measure the voltage between USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) terminals No. 1 and No. 11.





Is there battery voltage?

YES -

Go to step 16.

NO -

Go to step 28.

16. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

17. Disconnect these items:

- USB adapter control unit connector A (14P)
- Navigation display unit 20P connector
- HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector
- AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)
- XM receiver connector A (14P) (with XM)

18. Check for continuity between USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) and the navigation display unit 20P connector according to the table.













Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 19.

NO -

There is an open or short in the wire(s) between the USB adapter control unit and the navigation display unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�

19. Check for continuity between body ground and USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) terminals No. 9 and No. 10 individually.





Is there continuity?

YES -

There is a short in the wire(s) between USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) and body ground. Replace the affected shielded harness.�

NO -

Go to step 20.

20. Check for continuity between the terminals of USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

There is a short in the wire(s) between the USB adapter control unit and the navigation display unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�

NO -

Go to step 21.

21. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

22. Disconnect USB adapter control unit connector A (14P), and the navigation display unit 20P connector.

23. Check for continuity between audio unit connector C (14P) and the navigation display unit 20P connector according to the table.













Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 24.

NO -

There is an open or a short in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the navigation display unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�

24. Check for continuity between body ground and audio unit connector C (14P) terminals No. 9 and No. 10 individually.





Is there continuity?

YES -

There is a short in the wire(s) between audio unit connector C (14P) and body ground. Replace the affected shielded harness.�

NO -

Go to step 25.

25. Check for continuity between the terminals of audio unit connector C (14P) according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

There is a short in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the navigation display unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�

NO -

Go to step 26.

26. Turn on the audio unit, and check for sound in each mode (AM, FM, XM, and CD).

Is the sound normal?

YES -

Replace the USB adapter control unit USB Adapter Control Unit Replacement.�

NO -

Replace the audio unit Audio Unit Removal / Installation.�

27. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

28. Disconnect USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) and audio unit connector C (14P) [and XM receiver connector A (14P)].






29. Check for continuity between USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) and audio unit connector C (14P) according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 30.

NO -

Repair an open in the wire(s) between the USB adapter control unit and the audio unit.�

30. Reconnect audio unit connector C (14P).

31. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

32. Measure the voltage between body ground and USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) terminals No. 1 and No. 2 individually.





Is there battery voltage?

YES -

Go to step 33.

NO -

Repair an open in the wire(s) between the USB adapter control unit and the audio unit.�

33. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

34. Reconnect USB adapter control unit connector A (14P).

35. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

36. Measure the voltage between USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 11 and body ground.





Is there less than 0.2 V?

YES -

Check pin fit and connection, then substitute a known-good audio unit Audio Unit Removal / Installation, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio unit Audio Unit Removal / Installation. If the symptom is still present, substitute a known-good USB adapter control unit USB Adapter Control Unit Replacement, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original USB adapter control unit USB Adapter Control Unit Replacement.�

NO -

Repair an open in the wire between the USB adapter control unit and the audio unit.�
