DTC Troubleshooting: P0615
DTC P0615:
Starter Cut Relay STRLD Circuit Malfunction (M/T)
NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.
1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
2. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
Are DTC P16BD and P0615 indicated at the same time?
YES -
Go to the troubleshooting for DTC P16BD P16BD.
NO -
Go to step 3.
3. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
4. Press the engine start/stop button to select the START mode, for 1 second or more.
5. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC P0615 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 6.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at starter cut relay 1, starter cut relay 2, the +B cut relay, and the ECM.�
6. Try to start engine.
Does the engine start?
YES -
Go to step 7.
NO -
Go to step 17.
7. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
8. Remove the driver's dashboard undercover Driver's Dashboard Undercover Removal/Installation, then check the No. 8 STRLD (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES -
Go to step 9.
NO -
Replace the fuse, then go to step 26.
9. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
10. Disconnect ECM connector A (49P).
11. Remove starter cut relay 1 (A) from the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
12. Connect starter cut relay 1 4P connector terminal No. 1 to body ground with a jumper wire.
13. Check for continuity between ECM connector terminal A28 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to step 30.
NO -
Go to step 14.
14. Disconnect driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector G (13P).
15. Connect driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector G (13P) terminal No.6 to body ground with a jumper wire.
16. Check for continuity between ECM connector terminal A28 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Replace the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box Drivers Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box (Drivers MICU) Removal and Installation, then go to step 25.
NO -
Repair open in the wire between the ECM (A28) and the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box, then go to step 25.
17. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
18. Remove the driver's dashboard undercover Driver's Dashboard Undercover Removal/Installation, then remove starter cut relay 1 (A) from the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
19. Check for continuity between starter cut relay 1 4P connector terminal No. 3 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to step 20.
NO -
Repair open in the wire between starter cut relay 1 and G301, then go to step 25.
20. Check for continuity between the +B cut relay terminal No. 3 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to step 21.
NO -
Repair open in the wire between the +B cut relay and G403, then go to step 25.
21. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
22. Disconnect ECM connector A (49P).
23. Connect starter cut relay 1 4P connector terminal No. 4 to body ground with a jumper wire.
24. Check for continuity between ECM connector terminal A3 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to step 30.
NO -
Repair open in the wire between the ECM (A3) and starter cut relay 1, then go to step 25.
25. Reconnect all connectors.
26. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
27. Reset the ECM with the HDS.
28. Do the ECM idle learn procedure ECM/PCM Idle Learn Procedure.
29. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC P0615 indicated?
YES -
Check for poor connections or loose terminals at starter cut relay 1, starter cut relay 2, the +B cut relay, and the ECM, then go to step 1.
NO -
Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.�
30. Reconnect all connectors.
31. Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software ECM/PCM Update, or substitute a known-good ECM.
32. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC P0615 indicated?
YES -
Check for poor connections or loose terminals at starter cut relay 1, starter cut relay 2, the +B cut relay, and the ECM. If the ECM was updated, substitute a known-good ECM, then recheck. If the ECM was substituted, go to step 1.
NO -
If the ECM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the ECM was substituted, replace the original ECM Service and Repair. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
